Who's Who

If you've come to the series late, or just can't figure out who's who, the following may help fill in some of the details. It's incomplete of course, since Seven Days concentrates on action rather than character development. As we learn more about each character, I'll try to update these. If you have something to add, email me with the details. If you're more interested in the actor, just click on their name and you'll jump to the Internet Movie Database for a current listing of their work.

Parker Vukavitch Donovan Talmadge
Mentnor Ballard Ramsey
Dawes

Owsley

Frank B. Parker   BackStep Pilot
[Jonathan LaPaglia]

A former Navy SEAL and CIA black ops operative, Frank Parker is an unlikely hero. With an extensive background in "black ops" all over the globe, Parker was captured while on assignment in Somalia and tortured by "technicals" -- locked in a metal box in the hot sun for a week with no food or water. When he was recovered, he didn't know his own name. That breakdown landed him in a CIA mental institution on Hansen Island, where the BackStep team found him.

Parker has apparently had setbacks in his personal life. We've learned that he was raised in an orphanage while growing up. Parker's need for action and the resulting stint on Hansen Island spelled the end of his marriage to Patricia, who has since remarried. They have a son, Jimmy.

During Parker's initial evaluation by the team, Nate Ramsey pointed out that he was a drunk, a gambler and had had problems with authority all his life. His unpredictability and a caustic sense of humor weren't pluses either. Despite those marks against him, Parker beat out the other candidates. His high pain threshold and a photographic memory were qualities the team felt would serve him well. Donovan -- a Navy buddy and now fellow team member --- persuaded the team that Parker was their best choice, saying "When the whip comes down, Parker's gonna be there for you."

While on assignment, Parker is referred to as "Conundrum", serial number 923880305. He does not appreciate the confinement to base the project requires (though it has to be better than Hansen Island) and enjoys playing pranks on his chaperones on the rare occasions he is allowed to leave.

From their first meeting, Frank has been attracted to beautiful and intelligent Olga Vukavitch, another team member. Because of Frank's overt flirtacious manner, and of course the backstepping, the development of their relationship has suffered a number of setbacks.

Olga Vukavitch   BackStep Science Specialist
[Justina Vail]

Perhaps brainier than she is beautiful, Olga Vukavitch is a world-class scientist whose service on the team includes monitoring Parker's mental and physical well being (though we have seen her at the launch console reporting reactor levels -- she must have many talents).

A defector, Vukavitch is a veteran of a Russian time travel project that resulted in the disappearance of her husband in a failed experiment. When the collapse of communism came, the program was canceled and Vukavitch moved to the U.S. If there were any questions about her loyalty to America, she silenced them by killing her husband when he reappeared and tried to sabotage the BackStep project.

Parker's attempts to form a relationship with the fair Ms. Vukavitch are continually thwarted both by her somewhat cool, professional approach to him, and the fact that he often erases some "progress" each time he backsteps. While she remains unaware of where their relationship had gone, she is aware that the backstepping is affecting them personally.

Capt. Craig Donovan   BackStep Military Liaison
[Don Franklin]

The chief military adviser to the BackStep team, Donovan is also assigned as a back-up or alternative pilot --- even though he wasn't one of the original candidates considered. Parker and Donovan have served as Navy SEALS together before (Parker saved Donovan's life in the Honduras; they also saw action in Chile, Somalia and Bangladesh) and are close friends.

Bradley Talmadge   BackStep Government Liaison
[Alan Scarfe]

Talmadge is the BackStep team leader and reports to the National Security Agency (NSA). His dealings with the Pentagon keep the top-secret project going.

Dr. Isaac Mentnor   BackStep Science Chief
[Norman Lloyd]

Dr. Metnor is scientific head of the project and creator of BackStep. Despite his age (84), he's still involved heavily in the project, providing wisdom and guidance regarding ethical aspects and project planning.

Dr. John Ballard   Time Travel Specialist
[Sam Whipple]

Dr. Ballard's discovery of the link between gravity and temporal displacement led to the construction of the sphere. The sucker-loving Ballard "runs the math" associated with operating the sphere and serves as a its head mechanic. His adjustments to the sphere have caused a time-loop malfunction, and another incident where Parker was cloned, creating an evil version of himself.

Nathan Ramsey   BackStep Security Chief
[Nick Searcy]

Hard-nosed, patriotic Nate Ramsey is charged with base and personnel security. The sole vote against Parker's initial selection as "chrononaut," Ramsey is convinced that Parker is not the right man for the job, despite mounting evidence to the contrary. Brandishing a gun, he attempted to stop Parker the first time he backstepped and was ordered shot by Talmadge --- an event that was undone (but curiously not reported by Frank) when Parker was successful in altering the past.

Jack T. Dawes   Chrononaut
[Lawrence Monoson]

A crononaut comes from 168 years in the future,Dawes was sent to kill a scientist who had created a cancer cure that had a flaw. He completes his mission, dying next to his victim after being shot by a security guard. But with time travel, death need not be permanent. Time will tell...

Andrew "Hooter" Owsley   BackStep Science Specialist
[Kevin Christy ]

When John Ballard takes a leave of absence from the program, his protegé, cocky cyberhacker Andrew Owsley, is available to step in. Though only 22, his multiple doctorate degrees give him plenty of science credentials.
