Sarah McLachlan - Do What You Have To Do

Sarah McLachlan - Do What You Have To Do

This is a truly beautiful song. Another song of impossible love. Even though "we have the sense to recognize" that we must let go, it is not an easy thing to do. We will continue to yearn for that person, but if it wasn't meant to be, in order to retain your mental stability, you have to learn to let go. The most powerful part of the song:

Deep within I'm shaken by the violence
Of existing for only you

Speaks to me on a very deep level. When you're in love, at least when I was, the happiness of that person becomes the most important thing and in a sense, you live for the sole purpose of being there for them. The realization of that when it's over is truly mind-numbing. I hope that someday I will know how to let go.

What ravages of spirit
Conjured this temptuous rage
Created you a monster
Broken by the rule of love
And fate has lead you through it
You do what you have to do
And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do...

And I have the sense to recognize that
I don't know how to let you go
Every moment marked
With apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
Trying to escape this desire
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do...

But I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how
To let you go
I don't know how
To let you go

A glowing ember
Burning hot
Burning slow
Deep within I'm shaken by the violence
Of existing for only you
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do

And I have sense to recognize but
I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go
