( 1) Who or what is the Net Loss Club?
The Net Loss Club is an e-mail group that generates a lot of mail at times! The Net Loss Club began in July by accident! Thinker didn't want to diet alone, she wanted diet buddies. People to share her 100 pound weight loss adventure with. Being an overly enthusiastic person she ended up with over 160 members by Nov. 95.
The group now does a regular newsletter, Thinker still writes her frequent Ramblings (trying to help motivate others to do it with her) and the members openly share advice and ideas. At times they may not agree but that's okay because we learn from each other. The group's main goals are supporting one another and sharing ideas!
The Net Loss Club is an e-mail support group that can generate at times a large amount of mail. If a lot of e-mail is not your thing, then this group is probably not for you!

( 2) What is expected of me as a member? Nothing but to keep an open mind. However if you send out a short profile of yourself to others you will receive more mail! Once a week I shall send profiles to those I have seen send one out the previous week. I have over 60 at the moment. Join in if you can and participate but if you're a busy person just read some of what comes around, you may benefit. This group is for all with an eating problem.

( 3) Is NLC a diet? We offer no special new diet for you. We do not offer members a diet nor do we support any particular weight loss program. Some of the members do support their favorite. If you want to learn about a lot of different diets just ask. I'm sure other members will gladly share what they've heard or tried themselves.

( 4) What is the NLC's main purpose? Thinker's philosophy is that we eat because of other problems. This group is a place to discuss what bothers you with folks that have similar problems. PLUS we share our up and down moments. If you're having a really great week, please share it with the group. They find it inspiring. And if you're on the low side don't be afraid to seek some comfort. We've been down too, chances are that someone experienced a similar pain and can help you through it.

( 5) Do you suggest I follow all the advice members send me? ONLY A FOOL would try to follow everything they read! I'm sure you're no fool! Take what you think may benefit you and leave the rest go. No one wants to force any particular idea upon you. We're just sharing what works for us,it may be inappropriate for you, only you know that.

( 6) Are there any fees to become a member? We charge no membership fees BUT: THIS GROUP USUALLY brings you a lot of e-mail. If you have a charge for getting e-mail this can add up! We have started accepting donations to help support the cost of a listserv. Donations of any kind are appreciated but never expected. Especially from NEW MEMBERS! Just somthing for future references. If you later decide to donate mail them to Thinker! Kathy Kramer, P.O. Box 267, Richlandtown, Pa. 18955-0267

( 7) Do I have to answer all the e-mail I get? No one can force you to answer all e-mail. Some folks don't even read it all, they just delete some of it. A lot of the mail sent to all, that kind of mail folks don't really expect everyone to answer. However if someone makes an attempt to be friendly personally it would be courteous to acknowledge you recieved it, even if only to reply that you get more e-mail than you can answer regularly. The choice is yours.

( 8) How can I e-mail everyone? Simply send it to the Listserv! If you respond to a message posted it will go only to that person unless you chose to repond to all. Please don't respond to all unless it is really worth telling all. Say I post I lost 20 pounds this month. I would love to hear you say congratulations but 100+ people wouldn't care about that. Just use common sense please.

( 9) How may I best get started with the group? Send out your profile! Once a week I will send all the profiles in the archives to those that send out profiles. Try writing someone who's profile you have recieved, pick one you feel you may have something in common with, or maybe a total opposite. Whomever you wish, hopefully you will be able to make a few good intimate buddies within the group. It's better to have 3 or 4 buddies because if one goes on vacation or quits on you, you'll still have others to correspond with regularly. Gradually add on to your list of good buddies til you feel you have enough. Some folks have more time than others, so don't take it personally if someone doesn't respond. Just keep trying til you find some folks to write. Thinker answers all mail and so does Morris! Some of us are just computer junkies.

(10) What kind of mail is suitable for the whole group? Anything of general interest is welcome! Like announcing you lost 10 pounds to everyone is great! We like to hear that kind of stuff but things like congratulating Fran she did great losing 10 pounds, would be inappropriate to the whole group. We could end up with 20 messages in one day of people congratualting someone else. Congratulate them in private mail not group mail, please.
Plus please don't quote more than you have to when responding to mail. Some folks have to pay based on how long the messages are, why make it longer than it has to be.

(11) Does the NLC Sell any Products? No. We do not allow any commercial postings to the group. Recently someone brought to my attention an AD FOR computers that was supposedly sent to the NET LOSS CLUB members. I did not receive such a message. If I had I would've scolded the person. Please do not try to sell our members things! This is not the place to sell your wares! I have the ability to ban people for breaking these rules.
If you have a personal homepage or are doing a survey type thing I can see you may want to ask for help, that's different. This is NOT A COMMERCIAL ENDEAVOR! I don't make any money from the group, why should you!!!!

(12) SAMPLE PROFILE: Hi,
I'm Thinker, I'm 41 years old, with a happy marriage and two teenage children. The only problem our household has is food! Most of us are overwieght! Except for my son who is afraid he'll get fat like the rest of us. He's super skinny!
I wasn't fat as a child but boy when I grew up, I grew out too! At one time I weighed as much as 277! Right now I'm stuck near 225! I've been there for about a month! The scale doesn't want to move!
I enjoy, bowling, word games, computers, and writing people! I'm an email junkie! If you ever need someone to write , please write me!
I can be intelligent at times, even profound but then at other times I feel like Forrest GUMP! I can be so stupid! I guess I'm flexible! I try hard to be all things! Someday I'll realize I can't do it all! For now I'm concentrating on losing weight!
Enough about me! Have a good DAY! and if you can surf the Net visit my home page sometime. If you happen to have a home page let me know and I'll add it as a link to mine!
May Gods Love Surround you, (13) We are NOT PROFESSIONALS! We do not gaurantee any advice we may give out, we recommend readers pick and choose at their own discretion what is good advice for them. We may have some professionals in the group. But they're here as a part of the group to participate the same as anyone else not to render their services in a profesional capacity! They are welcome to speak up professionally anytime they wish but we don't expect them to,we're just glad to have them there to watch what's going on. Perhaps if they see something really wrong being said they'll correct the given advice based on their professional standing.
I'd love to have more Professionals join us anon., just to watch us. Our intentions are good but not being professionals we may mess up!
