Dieting for The Sport of it!

by Thinker

Recently it occurred to me I ought to treat my diet as a sport that I enjoy doing! This idea may make no sense at all to you but let me explain my present revelation.
I used to bowl a whole lot. My husband and son are better bowlers than me. My son wishes to be a pro. Maybe you never bowled, so perhaps try to think about what I'm about to say in terms of a sport you have played, or maybe even a word game, or card game. The principals I'm about to mention apply to them all!

We enjoy it more while socializing with others.
WE join leagues, this club is my diet league!

We attend weekly group outings. We miss out by not going!
Such as a diet group meeting would be.

We tell folks what we have done at bowling!
If we tell them ball by ball we bore them
We only share the highlights.
If I tell folks every ounce of food I eat
I bore them but they like knowing how I'm doing!

Some people are born natural athletes and can bowl well.
Some people are born thin and can eat what they wish!
Some people practice and learn to get good.
These are dieters who can learn to eat right!

Practice means trying harder and trying new methods.
Everyone has their own methods to succeed!
Dieters have to put more effort into it and
look for a suitable diet.

Some people even go to coaches for help!
Dieters join diet programs!

Bowling a good game consists of concentrating
on each and every shot. Looking at the score card
before done has an effect on one's game!
Dieters need to concentrate on each and every meal!
Looking at what you've done thus far has an effect
on one's mood and diet!

Recreational bowlers have fun and enjoy it while doing
it and only think of it once in a while!
Recreational dieters pay attention while eating
But don't dwell on the diet all day long!

Professional Bowlers are dedicated to the sport
every strike has to be done just right to make
them happy. They live and breathe bowling! And get
paid very well for it!
Professional dieters, live and breathe every
minute thinking of food and get nothing for it!

Thus in ending, I prefer to become a recreational
dieter! No one pays me! Plus thinking about my diet
constantly makes me think too much about food.
Professional Dieters insist every day must be
Perfect!

"We are each angels with only one wing, and we can only FLY embracing each other."

Come Fly with US!

It took Edison over 2000 steps to invent the light bulb. When asked about all of his failures his response was"what failures? It was a 2000 step process!
In the Movie Apollo the character played by Tom Hanks says"This is a 1000 step problem and we're on step 5. You're worried by step 678!"
As C.M.S. told me "We can tackle weight and health problems, but we have to take things in order!

Food Control
By: Caleb Burns, 1995

I know I'd like to gorge myself
And the choice is up to me,
But an extra bite of food tonight
And I'm no longer free.

The overweight that follows,
With lard around my waist,
Makes me regret I took that step,
But the fat can't be erased.

The overeating frenzy
To get some stupid snack,
Will lead to health concerns or worse --
Perhaps a heart attack.

The temporary pleasures
Of foodstuffs swallowed down --
Are they really worth your patch of earth
When you're six feet underground?

Ben Franklin said it simply --
"We should not live to eat!"
I could consume from now to doom
And never feel complete.

And so instead and for just now

I'm firmly in control.
And that hungry feeling tells me I'm healing
And I'll surely reach my goal.

A little cheer I'm composing:

Hip Hip Hooray!

Three cheers for the Net Loss Club!

Where folks from around the World

both young and old

Have a story to be told.

Hip Hip Hooray!

As a matter of fact we're fat!

but we're working on that!

We don't meet face to face

but this is the place!

Hip Hip Hooray

Doesn't matter what time of day!

We KNOW someone will hear what we say!

Together we can move mountains!

And God Willing we'll succeed!

Hip Hip Hooray! It's a New Day!

I'm not very pretty so I never heard this line:"You have such a pretty face. Yeah too bad the rest of you is such a blob."

An Enlightening thought given to me by C.M.S.
"Health is not a goal, an endpoint, or an exact set of circumstances. It is a band of a continuum, with ups, and downs."

THIS IS THE TRUE JOY IN LIFE:
*Being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one,
*Being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap,
*And being a *force* of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances - complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.
George Bernard Shaw, as quoted by the Hope Health newsletter, Hope Heart Institute, August 1995 edition.
Seems a bit harsh, at first, until you read it through and think...I especially like the second point!
Take care and feel good about your work! We all really appreciate it!

Kahil Gibran, "The Prophet", the chapter "On sorrow"
"The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain."
I like people who have been carved and furrowed by the passage of life.
Peace, Claire

I could make ten pages just sharing the most inspirational stuff that has been sent my way since I began the group. These are a great group of people, helping one another! Sometimes we hardly even discuss our diets! We're becoming friends! Having known the defeat of weightloss gives us a deep bond! BUT we're turning it around and becoming real winners!
