This
is an eye opening program. My chapter loved it! A few weeks ahead of time,
ask your members to bring in
EMPTY cartons, boxes and wrappers of food items they are
eating each week....candy bars, chips,
lunchmeats...baloney, weiners, TV dinners, pot pies,
canned soups, packaged meals like Hamburger Helper, snack
cakes & cookies, microwave popcorn, fast food
items,.......... ANYTHING they consume.
Hopefully you will get a wide variety.
You will need
several test tubes, or small babyfood jars will do.
A can of CRISCO or other shortening.
and a 1/4 teaspoon measuring spoon.
and a marker to mark the jars or tubes.
First look over
your "empties" the chapter has provided.....
look at the labels for the FAT content of each. Label the
jars or tubes for the ones you choose to use. Now melt
the CRISCO to
a liquid form. Next you will put one 1/4 teaspoon of the
LIQUID CRISCO for EACH 1 grahm of FAT the item
contains.into its corresponding jar or testtube. The
liquid CRISCO will return to its solid state when cooled.
(USDA says the 1/4 teaspoon of shortening does equal the
equivalent of 1 grahm of FAT.)
Your chapter will
be AMAZED at the AMOUNT of FAT in the
things they are consuming on a daily/weekly basis.
