AgeSmart is a forum for exchanging ideas and information
about how to incorporate positive and sensible approaches to aging into
the lives of those who are nearing or who have passed the half century
mark.
The objectives of the list are to:
encourage participants to focus on the positive and productive
aspects of aging;
assist in the improvement of mind, body and spirit as
one ages;
encourage entertaining discussion, advice and anecdotes
of interest to participants;
motivate list members to make constructive changes in
their lives, so that these changes will have a significant and beneficial
effect, today or in the future - whether physical, emotional, intellectual,
spiritual or social!
WHAT TYPE OF
PEOPLE ARE ON AGESMART?
Smart People!
This is an open list and anyone prone to thinking s/he
is "over the hill" is urged to take part! We promise to put some
"joie de vivre" back into your life! Professionals working and
interacting with older adults are welcome to participate in the List and
to contribute their suggestions. Although the List is open, and one does
not have to be an "oldie" to participate, discussion will pertain
to the interests and issues of those in their "prime". No matter
how old one is or how good things are, AgeSmart hopes to enhance joy of
living and improve quality of life.
AgeSmart tries to maintain a balance between sensible
postings and research and socializing. AgeSmart discussions span the emotional,
intellectual, social, artistic, political, physical or spirtual aspects
of life beyond 50. We encourage sound and sagacious suggestions which will
help all of us experience satisfying middle/upper ages and fulfilling senior
years. Dialogue is entertaining, energizing, and effervescent! Both wit
and wisdom is appreciated.
This is not a list which focusses on specific medical
problems, but rather one which emphasizes a healthy life style and how
to avoid the pitfalls associated with aging.

formally until list traffic warrants it. So by default, all new subscribers
receive all topics. Possible examples of topics follow, however, anyone
may propose a new topic at any time.

that serve that purpose. Questions/comments about how to manage symptoms
from a positive and helpful point of view; how to find a doctor; how to
handle your doctor; how to survive the medical care bureaucracy are acceptable
(WARNING: messages on this List cannot serve as medical advice)

will be added as appropriate in order to facilitate constructive communication.
Abbreviations are NOT necessary, but once used for a particular post, should
be consistently followed to maintain the thread.
