JIPMER stands for Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research, and is situated in Pondicherry.

Admission to JIPMER is purely on merit, based on a comprehensive entrance examination held once a year. About 15,000 hopefuls appear for the examination every year for about 60 vacancies.
