The Summit First Aid Squad is funded entirely through private donations. We do not receive any tax dollars from the City of Summit or any other government agency. We are not a United Way agency.
The bulk of our income comes from our Annual Fund Drive. Other sources of revenue include:
Our Annual Fund Drive is mailed to each Summit residence and business in September. Like all of our services, the Fund Drive is administered by volunteers. Unlike some organizations, we do not use any outside marketing agencies or professional fund raisers. As a result, we can assure our contributors that 100% of all donations made will actually benefit the First Aid Squad.
The First Aid Squad annual operating budget is just over $100,000. The Fund Drive typically brings in about $ 80,000. The remaining 20% must be met from donations, memorials, grants and interest on a few investments. Our annual operating budget reflects the cost to provide our service from day-to-day. It does not cover capital expenses such as major building repairs or new ambulances.
We own 3 ambulances and generally try to keep each for 9-10 years. This means that we have to replace or refurbish an ambulance every 3-4 years. The cost of a new 1998 ambulance is about $ 105,000. In 1993 and 1997 we chose to remount an existing modular box on a new truck chassis at costs of $48,000. and $54,000. respectively.
It is estimated that a full-time paid ambulance service for the City of Summit would cost in excess of $ 800,000 per year.
All contributions to the Summit First Aid Squad are tax deductible. When requested, we will acknowledge any donation. In the case of a memorial contribution, we will notify the family of the person in whose memory the donation was made.
