CCC AORN 5th Annual Golf Tournament

By Diane Graham

The sky was blue, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful California fall day for the start of the 5th annual CCC AORN Golf Tournament. This year, the tournament was played at Diablo Creek Golf Course in Concord on Sunday, October 12th.There were 11 teams registered and the fun began with the first group's tee time of 10:32. Teams were comprised of AORN members, surgical technologists, industry representatives from Zimmer, Healthpoint and Medronic, surgeons, friends, neighbobrs and family. Kaiser facilites were well represented with team members from Valllejo, Martinez, and Walnut Creek.

Two hours prior tothe 10:32 tournament start, the ;hard working golf tournament committee arrived to setup. They effiently set up their displays for registration, raffle tickets/awards, mulligan tickets, casion hole (closest to the pin) and atrophies for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. There were even trophies for the "Dead Ass Last" team but, curiously, previous years winners of this award never stayed to take home the award. Committee members present included Chris Bara, Dianna Costa, Carmel Engel, Cathey Nisen, Polly Walton, Mary Esther Loranger, Barb Jones, Diane Graham, Terry Burchfield, Kathy McCararey, Sandy Price and Laurie Lynam. Martha Gex and Bruce Milller were active in the planning of the event but were unable to attend on the day of the tournament.

The tournament format was a scramble but there were individual opportunities for excellence on men and women longest drives, the casino hole and a hole in one contest. The casino hole offered the participants a chance to gambnle that their shotwould be the closest to the pin on a par 3. This years winner was MaryHo Lyons who nudged Valere Grist out of the running by approzimately one foot! MaryJo split the pot with CCC AORN abd betted gersekf a oruze if $82.59. The men's longest drive onhole #3 was won by Dave Norman in group #1. Dave had a awesome drive, over water, and never had anyone come close to his winning hit MaryJo Lyons scored big again on hole #16, the women's drive and both she and Dave took home $25 cash. The hole-in one contest, sponsored by Hill- rom, was a new feature this year. For a small entrance fee, golfers tried to win airfare, ocean view hotel accommodations and rental car for two on Maui. Unfortunately, no one was able to score a hole in one and Hill=Rom's insurance agent breathed a sigh of relief.

When all the scorecards were tallied, there were two teams who finished with exactly the same score! Harry Fegan's (Zimmer) team comprised to Harry, Kent Higginbotham, Ryan Robertson and Bob Palmer won a roll of the dice for first place with Coreyls group included Todd Stock, Chris Kuhl and Trevor Stock. Third place was won by the tiam of Mike Limm, Javier Saenz and Gary Goebel.

Everyone agreed that the day had been perfect, the company great and that we'd do it again next year. What better way to benefit perioperative nursing scholarship?
