~ Perfectly Imperfect ~

Dear Friends on our Journey ~ ~ ~

I'm glad you're visiting our Web Site. I imagine you're here because you're interested in recovery. My name is Mari ... and I am perfectly imperfect. I am on a journey to recovery and I hope you experience the miracles that I have along the way.

"The wise man, the true friend,
the finished character we seek,
everywhere ...
and only find in fragments.
. . . . . . . Ralph Waldo Emerson

I believe in many ways a lot of us have searched all our lives for the perfect person. We hoped our parents would be perfect. They weren't. We hoped our children would be perfect. They weren't, either. We wanted all our friends ... especially our close friends ... to be perfect. We found them far from being so. Most of all we wanted our spouse or our significant other to be perfect. And they were!!!! Or at least our "illusion" of them was that they were.

What we found as we made our way through life were fragments of perfect people. Part of what we considered a perfect person was found in our parents. Another fragment was found in our spouse. Still other pieces were found in each of our children ... or in our friends. And we often wished we could put them all together.

In doing this ... in expecting this ... in wanting this .... we felt as though WE should be perfect. And we tried SO hard to be so. We became people pleasers. We were good little boys and girls. We always tried to do the right thing. And we became ultra-sensitive to criticism. And we didn't accept ourselves and we had a great deal of trouble accepting others as they were.

In recovery we have learned that we don't have to be perfect. And our parents, our children, our friends, our spouse, our significant other .... they don't have to be either. Not any more.

"God grant us the SERENITY to accept
the things we cannot change ~ ~
The
COURAGE to change the things we can ~ ~ ~
And the
WISDOM to know the difference."

Love,
Mari
