~ Higher Power ~
If what we have learned and felt and seen means
anything at all,
Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous
it means that all of us, whatever our
race, creed, or color
are the children of a living
Creator with whom we may form a relationship
upon
simple and understandable terms
as soon as we are
willing and honest enough to try.
I first came into progrom and went on the first "pink cloud." I worked the program as hard as I knew how; yet I relapsed. I felt like a failure. Then I found some on-line recovery loops. I was shocked to discover that, from someone's sharing about their experiences with relapse, I would find hope that I could find my way back also. I concluded that I had to have a plan of action (honesty, willingness, and working the steps) in order to maintain my commitment to myself and my Higher Power. The first thing I realized is that I need to remember how miserable I felt before I found this program. I had been suicidal and was unable to function anymore.
To prevent going back to the misery, I have to remember the past. I cannot maintain my recovery unless I honestly share with others about that past and where I am today. If I share my experience, strength and hope with you, then you will share yours with me just when I need it the most. I also discovered that "acting as if" isn't pretending that I am feeling something I am not, but is a new way of viewing the world. I start seeing things with rose- colored glasses, not black ones. I start seeing the positives in situations, not the negatives. My cup becomes half-full because that is all I need. I no longer focus on the half-empty part. Finally, I begin the day by seeking my Higher Power so He/She can be in charge, not me. The shares on the online loops have helped me to see recovery is a journey and not a destination.
One Day at a Time . . .
I will take responsibility for today, with the God of my understanding holding me and guiding me, so I can go into the future with a sense of awe and wonderment.
