RECOVERY MEDITATIONS
One Day at a Time

~ PEACE ~

Peace comes within the souls of men,
when they realize their oneness with the Universe,
when they realize it is everywhere ...
it is within each one of us.

Black Elk, Lakota Medicine Man

I am reminded how working my program of recovery is similar to when I moved to the state of Alaska. At first I could not accept the isolation, the cold, the differences from all I had been used to. Slowly the acceptance of all of this came and everyday was a new adventure. There was wonder and awe at what new things I would see and experience. What animals would I see today? Would the clouds be covering Mt. Denali or would I see it's majestic presence? Would there be northern lights tonight? I found much peace in my surroundings.

My program of recovery has been much the same. When I first came into the rooms of OA, I could not accept that there was a Higher Power who would love me and had plans for me to live each day to the best of my ability. Slowly, as I worked the Steps, I learned that, not only was this true, but that there were many others to help me along this path. I was no longer alone in this disease of compulsive eating.

When I get out of my Higher Power's way and listen, I wake up in the morning not dreading what the day will bring, but eager to find out what will happen. What plans does Higher Power have for me? Peace ... for myself and the rest of the world.

One Day at a Time . . .
I have peace when I take time to listen to my Higher Power
and to accept things as they are.
