- Sushi for Beginners by Marian Keyes
My mother-in-law gave this for me and when I first read the title I thought it was iffy. First of all, I had not heard of Marian Keyes, and second... sushi? BUT, it is a fabulous book, definitely the type of book you'd like to bring along with you if you are going to the beach or the pool, or if it's one of those rainy days and you are stuck inside. I'll admit, it's a chic-book, much like the chic flicks, but I just loved how Marian eased the story along.. it wasn't difficult for me at all to get going and continue to flip the pages.- Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
ah, yes.. the modern original for chic books. The movie is pretty good, too.- A Widow for One Year by John Irving
Not a bad book at all. I think this one is on Oprah's book club list, which is probably why I bought it.- The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King
I think this is my favorite book by King. It was written like an old-time fairytale, and which girl doesn't like a fairy tale (or Pretty Woman)? The skinny is that there's this king who has two sons, one who's beautiful and the other who thinks he's not. There's even spells and wizadry in this, and plenty of fantasy. Very smart young prince comes through, but how? You have to read for yourself!- It by Stephen King
- My Year Off by Robert McCrum
I saw this man go on the Today Show and I thought, "now who is this?" And then I heard his story. I went and bought the book and found it very moving. It's about Robert's year of recovery after a stroke.- Body for Life by Bill Phillips
You should at least browse this book! Bill is a fitness guru (ok, who didn't know this? raise your hand..) and the book details his program that's been successful for many people. It's a 12 week program and if you follow it to a T you should see some dramatic improvements in your health and fitness. If you don't push yourself, you don't grow, right? It's good to grow. Check this book out!- Alive by Piers Paul Read
Don't read this book if you have a weak stomach! Just kidding, but seriously, this is a true story about how members of a rugby team from South America survived after their plane crashed in the Andes mountains. It was made into a movie (starring Ethan Hawke.. rrrrrrr) that was pretty good, but not quite as good as the book, but that's my opinion- Still Me by Christopher Reeve
This has to be one of my favorite books. If you are a fan of Superman, or even if you are not, it's a great story. This book is about how a famous actor, avid sportsman, and family man became immobilized in a matter of seconds. He talks about his time in therapy and how he and his family have coped with his accident. Chris is also the chairman of the American Paralysis Associaion. Go to the site to read about this organization, it's progress and it's direction.- Animal Husbandry by Laura Zigman
This book was hilarious, another chic book. A good read for the one who is frustrated about a recent break-up.- She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb
Not a bad read. I found it amusing.. recommended..- Summer Sisters by Judy Blume
I read some books by Judy Blume when I was a young teen, such as "Deenie", and "are you there God? it's me, Margaret".. I thought those books were great, me in my young mind reading about coming of age.. neat stuff for me! Summer Sisters proved to me that Judy Blume is not only a great teen author, but she is also a great adult author.. more on the chic book side.. which is right up my alley.- Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner
Awesome! Once I started this book I couldn't leave it alone! I devoured it in about 2 days. This chic-book is great for someone who might be frustrated about work, an ex-boyfriend, unexpected surprises, their body.. our heroine in the book is very witty and likable. I found myself reading into the night past my bedtime (thank goodness for only 2 nights) to read about the next thing coming up.. great great great...- The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren
Ms. Lindgren also wrote the Pippi Longstocking stories.. the story about the brothers is one of fantasy (it's a book aimed at earlier readers) and loyalty to family.. really a good little book and I'm so glad I could read it in English and not have to learn Swedish expressly for this..
