Artificial pneumomediastinum as an aid for transcervical thymectomy

MINI ABSTRACT
   Transcervical thymectomy has now been described by several authors in the surgical treatment of myasthenia gravis. To improve thymectomy by this approach we perform an artificial pneumomediastinum immediately before the operation. The use of pneumomediastinum greatly facilitates the surgical access to the thymus and improves dissection of the gland.
