Bandages and Stitches

Usually bandages only cover the incision area, but some surgeons prefer to wrap the whole skull. Normally they are only kept on for a couple days, and are not involved in home care.

Most surgeons use dissolving stitches, which don't require any care after the surgery. The ends of the string may hang out, and fall off after a few days. In some cases, staples are used to close the incision. If this is done, they will need to be removed a few days after the surgery. Regardless how the incision is closed, usually all care to this area is completed before discharge from the hospital.
