*NEW RESEARCH*
Alzheimers seems to be caused by a depletion in the nervous system of the neurotransmitter: "acetylcholine". Patients with Alzheimers are not only deficient in acetylcholine, but also the enzyme that produces it: "choline acetyltransferase". Ingestion of "choline" can prevent existing acetylcholine from being broken down.
*SUPPLEMENTS*
"CHOLINE":
A member of the B-complex family. It penetrates the blood-brain barrier and goes into brain cells. Aids in sending nerve impulses. Helps loss of memory in later years.
Found in: leafy veggies, yeast, wheat germ, lecithin.
Daily doses are: 500-1000mg.
"VITAMIN. E.":
It has a protective effect on brain cells, by neutralizing free radicals. "Vit. E" does not cross the brain barrier: it is fused with a steroid to make the cross, to be more effective. "Vit. E" decreases as we get older: it can be increased by supplements.
Daily doses are: 400-800mg.
"THIAMIN (Vit. B1)":
Beneficial for the nervous system and mental attitude. It helps make acetycholine. Older people have Vit. B1 deficiency!
FOUND IN: Brewers's Yeast, whole wheat, oatmeal, peanuts, bran, milk.
Daily doses are: 100-300mg.
*IN CONCLUSION*
There is no treatment for Alzheimers but certain medications worsen the condition: Hypnotics such as "Flurazepam" (Dalmane), drugs given for heart disease, and intestinal cramping.
