Safety Engineering is a science dedicated to
predict, study, evaluate the causes of the accidents and take steps
to prevent its occurrence.
Accidents are driven by two main factors:-
- UNSAFE ACTS
- UNSAFE CONDITIONS.
Qualified Safety Engineers can give advice,
design safety devices and procedures that can efficiently eliminate
unsafe conditions, control unsafe acts, resulting the preservation
of life and money savings.
Occupational Safety is concerned with risks
encountered in areas where people work, offices,
manufacturing plants, farms, construction sites,
and commercial and retails facilities.

unsafe conditions and unsafe acts in a work environment.
Safety Procedures are guidelines designed by
safety experts, in a fashion that the activities required to perform
a task are accomplished in such way that the risks involved in such
task are controlled, and accidents eliminated or reduced.
Safety Rules are effective measures, designed by
safety experts in function of specific situations and circumstances
of exposure to risks.
Intrinsic Design is a design that takes into
consideration the nature of the machine and the nature of the
environment in which the machine will operate and incorporate
devices to avoid catastrophic situations in case of failures.
COMMON SENSE SAFETY PRINCIPALS
Recognize your limitations:
Do not attempt work, which you are not qualified
to do. A little knowledge can go a long way in causing accidents.
Your body too has limitations; it can only reach
so far and lift so much. Know your limitations and respect them.
Get Complete and proper instructions:
Learn exactly what you must do, especially when
starting work on a new job or task. If something unusual arises, go
look for help.
Use the proper tools:
Each tool has a specific purpose and a limited
use. Know the right tool to use and use it only as intended. Do not
abuse them. Tools have a way of protesting misuse in violent and
unexpected fashion. Inspect them for damage and wear.
Use de proper method:
DO NOT TAKE SHORT CUTS,
take time to be SAFE.
Use protective devices:
You may know someone else who learned the hard
way. Benefit from their experience.
Observe rules and instructions:
These are the safety devices on your on. There is
a reason for each of them based on considerable experience and
thought.
Keep your mind on the task:
Whatever the task of the moment is, it is
evidently worth doing and is important. Daydreaming,
worry and horseplay have no place on any task.
