Do you or someone you know have type1 diabetes? This is the type of diabetes that strikes in childhood and early adulthood and is believed to be an auto-immune disease. The body rejects what insulin the pancreas produces after a precipitating factor such as a virus (mumps,etc),stress, or an illness such as the flu if you have the genetic predispostion to develop diabetes. Approximately 10% of the diabetes population have type 1 diabetes. The rest have type 2 or adult onset. This page deals with type 1 diabetes.
