CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 1913 by President Evelyn Steen.
MINUTES: Minutes of the May 2, 2001 chapter meeting were read by the Readers Committee and approved.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A closing balance of $12,096.14 as of June 5, 2001 was reported by Treasurer Ann Ceasri. Submitted for audit.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A motion was made to accept the proposed revisions to the AORN of Alameda County Bylaws as presented to the membership on May 2, 2001. Following discussion, this motion was seconded and approved by the members present.
PRESENTATION OF SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS: Susan Sykes, committee chairperson, distributed awards to Sophie Taylor, Clenia Yadao, and Donna Rodgers.
RECOGNITION OF CNORs, CRNFAs: Karin Selbach was lauded for her CRNFA achievement, culminating a 2000 hour, eight year effort.
RECOGNITION OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN: Outgoing President Steen expressed thanks to those who helped her this past year.
TELLER'S REPORT: 170 ballots were sent out and 57 were returned. A motion was made to destroy the ballots. This motion was seconded and approved by the members present.
INSTALLATION OF ELECTED OFFICIALS: Donna Benotti installed the newly-elected officers utilizing a fairy theme.
PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS: Sophie Taylor presented her objectives to the membership.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Please turn in your points to Donna Rodgers by the end of June.
There will be a Bylaws meeting Tuesday, June 12, 1800-2000 at Sophie Taylor’s home.
Research committee is recruiting help to distribute vendor packets. See Kathie Shea.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 1958 by President Sophie Taylor.

PROGRAM: "Let's Talk AICDs" was presented by Rick Sanghera of Guidant Corporation.
CALL TO ORDER: The business meeting was called to order at 1955 by President
Evelyn Steen.
MINUTES: Minutes of the April 4, 2001, chapter meeting were read by the Readers
Committee and approved.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A closing balance of $11,622.87 as of May 1, 2001 was
reported by Treasurer Ann Ceasri. Submitted for audit.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
BUDGET & FINANCE: Draft of proposed budget to be reviewed by Board following
meeting.
MEMBERSHIP: June installation meeting tentatively set for Bill Smyth’s Westover Winery in Palomares Canyon. Flyers with details will be mailed to each facility. People are not renewing their memberships - we need help at each facility to promote membership!
NOMINATING: Ballots have been mailed out. Teller has received 50 in return
thus far. Due date is May 8.
PROGRAM/EDUCATION: There are 16 sign-ups for the May 5 Synthes workshop.
RESEARCH: Did not meet as planned. Still need to plan how to market Rep. packet.
WAYS & MEANS: Education workshop serving as fund-raiser.
POINTS: Forms available tonight. Please complete one and return to Donna Rodgers at June meeting.
NEW BUSINESS: The deadline for this year’s Leadership Conference is June 1.
We need to send Sophie. Election results are pending. Bylaws revisions were distributed and discussed. They will be voted on at the next meeting.
OLD BUSINESS: Please take a flyer to your facility regarding the Special Meeting on May 12, 2001. Linda Groah will be the featured speaker and Donna Watson will also be in attendance.
CORRESPONDENCE: Awards packets for 2002 are due October 1, 2001.
The SF/Marin newsletter is available from Evelyn. They are having a seminar on May 9 for those who are interested.

PROGRAM: “Bloodless Medicine and Surgery” was presented by Mary-Katheryn Derr, Director of Inservice Education, Bloodless Healthcare Development, Inc., and Coordinator, Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program, San Ramon Regional Medical Center, San Ramon, CA.
CALL TO ORDER: The business meeting was called to order at 1946 by President Evelyn Steen.
MINUTES: Minutes of the February 7, 2001, chapter meeting were read by the Readers Committee and approved.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A corrected closing balance of $16,768.04 for February 6 was reported by Treasurer Ann Ceasri. The closing balance for April 3 is $17,609.60. Submitted for audit.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
BYLAWS: Meetings will return to Tuesdays due to Sophie’s class schedule. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 11, 1800-2000 at Sophie Taylor’s home.
MEMBERSHIP: We need to start recruiting members as our numbers have fallen to 170 from 240 in 1997.
NEWSLETTER: We still need a rep to finance mailing. Congress reports are on the web site.
NOMINATING: Slate of candidates given to President.
PROGRAM/EDUCATION: Please take flyers to facilities for Synthes Spine Workshop on May 5, 2001. The 0800-1200 class will provide four contact hours at a cost of $40. The May 2 monthly meeting will be on “Care of the Automatic Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (AICD) Patient.”
POINTS: Forms are available from Donna Rodgers.
HISTORIAN: Martha See is accumulating information from each meeting.
RESEARCH: Next committee meeting will be April 17, 1800-2000 at Eden. Final draft of the template for vendor policy and guidelines in the OR distributed. Marketing of same and credentialing packet for vendors will be discussed. Kathie Shea shared letter of feedback regarding the PNDS.
NEW BUSINESS: Slate of officers presented: Treasurer - Ann Ceasri; Board of Directors - Diane Brophy, Evelyn Steen, Kathie Shea; Nominating Committee - Theresa Arruda-Tanner, Joann Sakaldasis.

Proposed Chapter Bylaws change regarding categories of membership presented to membership and will be voted on next month.
A local meeting to discuss the proposed restructuring of AORN at the national level is being pursued by Kathie Shea. She will provide details as they unfold.

June 22-26 AORN will be going to Washington, DC. AORN SF/Marin is presenting “Anatomy of a Lawsuit” on April 28. Flyers available.

PROGRAM: “Overview of the Organ and Tissue Donation Process” was presented by Donyale John, RN, BSN, CPTC, Hospital Services Coordinator, California Transplant Donor Network.
CALL TO ORDER: The business meeting was called to order at 1928 by President Evelyn Steen.
MINUTES: Minutes of the January 16, 2001 chapter meeting were read by the Readers Committee and approved.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A closing balance of $16,800.47 as of February 6, 2001 was reported by Treasurer Ann Ceasri, who will be completing the term of Carrolyn Bryant.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
BYLAWS: There will be a meeting Monday, February 12, 1800-2000 at Sophie Taylor’s home.
LEGISLATIVE: The ORNCC luncheon in Dallas will be on women’s abuse.
MEMBERSHIP: There will be no chapter meeting in March due to Congress.
NEWSLETTER: Deadline for the next newsletter is March 24. We still need to find new advertisers to replace those who have withdrawn their support. Congress delegates are responsible to get their reports to Mary Ritchie.
NOMINATING: Seeking candidates for President-elect, Treasurer, Board of
Directors, and Nominating Committee.
PROGRAM: Flyers will be out the beginning of March for the April chapter meeting, featuring “Bloodless Medicine and Surgery” by Mary-Katheryn Derr of San Ramon Regional Medical Center. Mark your calendars for the May 5 half-day Synthes Spine Workshop to receive 4 contact hours. Details forthcoming.
RESEARCH: The next meeting will be February 20. Final draft of the vendor form was distributed for comments.
WAYS & MEANS: The scholarship raffle took in $758 and yielded a profit of $538.
HISTORIAN: The February newsletter features an informative front-page article by Martha See.
NEW BUSINESS: Congress issues were presented to the chapter to give the delegates a feel of how to best represent our interests in Dallas. The idea of a dues increase did not seem unreasonable to most. The proposed bylaws amendment to create an affiliate membership category also met with approval.
OLD BUSINESS: The budget discussion was deferred due to the illness of our treasurer.
On a legislative note, HR3911, the bill to reimburse CRNFAs through Medicare, needs to be reintroduced to the new Congress. We are urged to write our representatives in support of this effort. Also, HCFA is once again pursuing taking the RN out of the OR.

Committee Reports:
Budget & Finance: A budget has been developed by the committee and needs Board approval.
Bylaws: There will be a meeting Monday, January 15, 2001 from 1800-2000 at Sophie Taylor’s home. Note the new day. There will be a meeting for Congress delegates after the next chapter meeting.
Membership: Need to come up with a campaign, as our numbers are dwindling.
Newsletter: Deadline for the February newsletter is January 20.
Program: “Overview of the Organ and Tissue Donation Process” will be presented by Donyale John, RN, BSN, CPTC, Hospital Services Coordinator for the California Transplant Donor Network, at the February 7, 2001 chapter meeting.
Project Alpha: Samuel Merritt students will be starting soon. Kathie Shea will address students at Eden tomorrow.
Research: Committee took the month of December off, but will be meeting on January 23. They are developing final language for the policy and guidelines regarding sales reps in the OR. By June, they hope to develop and distribute a form to be used by Alameda County facilities as well as a credentialing center.
Ways & Means: The Greens Sale produced $450 in revenue.
Historian: Give any information to Martha See. Chapter anniversary is coming up.
New Business: None.
Old Business: Congress delegates see Sophie for your assignments. Chapter members read issues to give input to delegates and/or candidate preferences. Award dinner will be Saturday night during Congress.
Correspondence: Christmas card from Vivian Watson. Habitat for Humanity will be happening again at Congress. Newsletter received from San Jose chapter. Anyone interested in World Conference in New Zealand, talk to Clenia Yadao or Donna Rodgers.

Research: Current research project is under way. The survey results will be in the latest newsletter. The template for sales reps in the OR is complete. Dr. Kleinbeck will receive her national award at the Congress awards dinner.
Old Business: Donna Benotti is accepting money for next month’s meeting (dinner).
Announcements: There will be a short Board meeting after the fashion show.

copy of your facility’s sales representative policy to the meeting.
Old Business: Perioperative Nurse Week is November 12 – 18. We are encouraged to be public-oriented in our celebrations. San Francisco/Marin chapter is planning an Exploratorium presentation once again.

CALL TO ORDER: The business meeting was called to order at 2002 by President Evelyn Steen.
MINUTES: Minutes of the June 7, 2000, chapter meeting were read by Readers Committee and approved.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Deferred by President Steen.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
BUDGET & FINANCE: Committee chairperson will compile temporary budget information in order for the chapter to function.
BYLAWS: There will be a meeting Tuesday, September 12, 2000, at 1800 at Sophie Taylor’s home. Direction sheets are available or call Sophie for same.
LEGISLATIVE: Met during summer. Will be pushing for CRNFA bill (see newsletter). Leadership conference will be June 20-22, 2001, in Washington, DC. Anyone interested?
MEMBERSHIP: Membership drive under consideration.
PROGRAM/EDUCATION: Committee met in July. See tentative schedule in August newsletter. Encouraging car pooling to meetings.
PROJECT ALPHA: Meeting with Samuel Merritt students who will be coming to OR so they know what to expect and what is expected of them.
WAYS & MEANS: Need 60 more golfers by September 15. Greens packets will be available at October meeting with money due at November meeting.
NEWSLETTER: Mary Ritchie is moving to Southern CA but will continue doing the newsletter via e-mail submissions. First class mailing has been paid for by Maxxim and Skytron will continue to advertise, so half of the newsletter budget has been met.
POINTS: Clenia gave tabulated points to new committee chairperson, Donna Rodgers.
RESEARCH: Focus this year will be on sales reps. in the OR, utilizing a modified Delphi study.
HISTORIAN: New historian is Martha See.
NEW BUSINESS:

Perioperative Nurse Week is coming up in November.
Only four chapter surveys have been returned.

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 1937 by President Martha See.
MINUTES: Minutes of the May 3, 2000, chapter meeting were read by Readers Committee and approved.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Deferred due to absence of treasurer.
NEW BUSINESS: Evelyn Steen will be attending the annual Leadership Conference at headquarters. Our recommendation for National recognition will be Sylvia Durrance.
A motion was made to destroy the ballots from our election of officers. It was voted on and approved by the membership.
There will be a Transition Board Meeting Saturday, June 18, 2000, at 0830 at Martha See‚s home. Please bring a breakfast item to share.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD RECIPIENT:
Amy Saft, a chapter member enrolled in a Master of Science in Nursing program at Samuel Merritt College, thanked the membership for her award.
RECOGNITION OF CNORs: Certified perioperative nurses were asked to stand and be acknowledged. Katherine Winter from Summit is the newest honoree.

Financial Statement: Treasurer absent. On March 20, 2000, a balance of

Bylaws: There will be a meeting Tuesday, May 9 at 1900 at Donna Benotti’s house.
Legislative: Pam Reuling has format for writing letters to representatives regarding HR3911. See display of Habitat for Humanity project house built for mother of nine.
Membership: Forms are available from Sophie. Beth Barnerd is a new member from Alaska.
Newsletter: Deadline for the June newsletter is May 24.
Nominating: Ballots were mailed.
Program: Installation of officers dinner will be at Strizzi’s on June 7.
Points: Forms are available and due by the end of June. Totals determine
who will be asked to serve as a delegate to Congress.
Project Alpha: Donna Benotti will address students on the expectations of OR nurses.
Research: Our chapter won an award from National for intermediate chap- ter. Our poster was displayed at Congress and won an award of merit. Dr. Kleinbeck wants to come speak to our chapter in September. Think about future projects - perhaps concerning reps. in the OR.
Scholarships: Only one student applicant, so perhaps we could fund someone to go to the leadership conference. See Susan following meeting.
Ways & Means: Donna Benotti is new chairperson. Golf tournament volunteer form is available, as well as form letter created by Donna to solicit donations.
Old Business: Review of revised Delegate Policy, followed by discussion.

Program: "Anesthetic Implications of Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass" was presented by John Monks, MD, of the East Bay Anesthesia Medical Group.
Call To Order: The meeting was called to order at 2000 by President Martha See.
Minutes: Minutes of the February 2 chapter meeting were read by the readers committee and approved.
Financial Statement: A balance of $18,383.29 was reported by Treasurer Carrolyn Bryant.
Committee Reports:
Bylaws: There will be a meeting Tuesday, March 7, at 1900 at Donna Benotti's house.
Legislative: Pam Reuling will be attending the next ORNCC meeting in Ontario. There is now a House sponsor for the RNFA Medicare reimbursement bill thanks to letter campaign.
Membership: Letters are being mailed to RNs whose membership is lapsing.
Newsletter: March 22 is the deadline for the next newsletter.
Program: There is no April meeting due to Congress. The May topic will be supracervical hysterectomies, presented by Dr. Darlene Lanka. The June meeting will be at Strizzi's - details to be announced.
Points: Forms are available from Martha.
Project Alpha: Donna Benotti and Kathie Shea trained 20+ reps. on Feb. 5, earning the chapter another $500 for their efforts. Congratulations and thank you!
Research: Data elements project will be presented at a Congress session Monday, April 3, from 1700-1830.
Scholarship: Applications are available from Susan Sykes and Martha See.
Ways & Means: There will be a meeting in conjunction with the Bylaws meeting Tuesday. On the agenda - golf tournament. There are 69 heart pins still available for sale.
Old Business: A motion was made to accept the Proposed Bylaws Amendments with the addition of an Article VIII Section 1B to read the same as Article VIII Section 2B (see form). Following discussion, the motion was seconded and approved by the membership.
Clenia presented the proposed bylaws amendments to be discussed at Congress as they appear in the January AORN Journal on page 96-97. Table 1 elicited negative feedback from our membership; Table 2, agreement; and Table 3, negative feedback (language not strong enough).
New Business: The slate of candidates for the upcoming election was presented by Evelyn Steen. President - Evelyn Steen, President Elect - Sophie Taylor. Nominating - Debbie Hoxie, Board - Jonas Israel and Clenia Yadao, Secretary - Donna Rodgers. Ballots will be printed and mailed. Chairman of the Tellers Committee is Nina Cervantes.

forthcoming.

Data Elements Update: First meeting of the Research Committee was May 28th to discuss Data Elements project. Dr. Susan Kleinbeck will be the featured speaker at the September chapter meeting to further enlighten us.
