Petra Kaufmann,

Dr. Kaufmann is a clinical researcher and neurologist with expertise in
neuromuscular disease. She completed subspecialty fellowship training
in EMG and neuromuscular disorders and is board certified in Neurology,
Clinical Neurophysiology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. In addition to
her clinical expertise she has 3 years of postdoctoral laboratory research
experience in molecular biology of mitochondrial disorders, working with
Dr. DiMauro at Columbia University. Dr. Kaufmann received her M.D. degree
and a doctorate with magna cum laude from the University of Bonn, Germany.
She graduated from the Mailman School of Public Health/Columbia University
with a Master of Science degree in Biostatistics/Patient Oriented Research.
She completed her Neurology Residency and Fellowship at the Neurological
Institute of Columbia University.
Dr.
Kaufmann is seeing patients with a variety of neuromuscular disorders.
Her special interests are muscle diseases, mitochondrial disorders and
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In addition to her clinical work she is
involved in clinical research in the fields of mitochondrial diseases
and ALS. She has presented at national and international meetings and
has received competitive fellowship awards in support of her research
by NATO and MDA. She is recipient of an Irving Clinical Research Scholarship
and has been honored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for Humanism in
Medicine for her excellence in medical student teaching.
