October 27, 2002 ~ Doggie Hotel ~~ Suppose it is time to hang out the shingle, "Doggie Hotel." As busy as this house has been the past few weeks filled with visiting dogs, why not start earning some room and board money? Let's see now. First it was Cotton and five of her dogs here for four nights. Her friend from Texas was here two nights with her nine dogs, but they all stayed downstairs and in the camper during their visit. Yesterday Wes and Wendy bought Bingo, their Pomeranian by to spend the night. They were on their way to Charlotte for some R & R this weekend and didn't want to leave him home alone.

Actually, Bingo considers himself another son and grandson of the family. He has been here enough that he is quite at home when he comes to visit. He lived downstairs two years back when his family was between houses and gets along very well with my own two canines. At this time, he has scooted Oreo out from under my bed and has slept there during the night. He even remembers to use the doggie dog to go outside. As I meander from room to room I have not two, but three sets of doggie paws pitter-pattering along with me. In fact, Bingo likes to be right at my feet when I sit down anywhere .

The last two times he was here, Wes had a problem getting Bingo to leave. He played a game of tag by going in and out the doggie door, or hiding under my bed. Wes would think that he had Bingo cornered only to find that he had slipped out on the other side of the bed and escaped outside. Wes would go outside only to find that Bingo would shoot back indoors. After a few times of hide and seek ( with Wes being the loser), it was time to begin playing hardball. Wes closed the doggie door with Bingo on the outside and caught him much easier. Just as the human grandchildren love to be at Grandma's house, so does the canine. It is probably more having company with him during the day that he loves the most instead of one special person. Spending most of his life at home with the birds while everyone else is at school or work would have to be boring. If the birds decide to sound off with their wild squawking, it would be earsplitting on Bingo's delicate ears. Thank goodness, the birds were not brought to spend the night .

I had a busy week of being inside doctors' offices. Allen borrowed my car last Monday while his truck was being worked on in Morganton at the ford center. Soon after he left for his house, my phone rang. It was Tbird reminding me of Giggles' dental appointment Tuesday morning. Sorry but I don't have any transportation. Not to worry! Tbird came by to pick me up between her appointed times for getting DynoKid and NascarKid from soccer practice and scouts. I rode home with them and drove her car back home in the rain. It had to be dark and rainy. Not having drove her car before, it was a challenge deciding where I would locate the control for the windshield wipers as well as the lights. How wonderful it would be if all vehicles were to follow the same rules for managing those important items all the time.

Giggles had to be in Newton by 10:15, which didn't give much time for her to watch her favorite TV program. Once we hurried to get there on time, it was only to sit and wait. Giggles was taken back to the dentist's room where he does all the work, but she sat in the dental chair for two hours while watching the dentist work on the roomful of children ahead of her. Only after the first two hours, did the nurse come out to inform me that the dentist had found another cavity and wanted permission to fill it while she was there. I gave the okay and after a stint of over three hours time overall, Giggles was ready to come home with opposite sides of her mouth numb, sporting two fillings and sealant on her teeth to protect them from more cavities. .

Thursday was my day for doctors. Giggles accompanied me first to the dentist's office. I spent over two hours in the chair, but the dentist was busy working on me. He prepped two teeth for crowns while Giggles sat on a blanket nearby and played with some of the toys in a drawer for the children to choose from after having their teeth worked on. She got to choose something for herself which turned out to be a ring with a pink "pearl" adorning it. We were back home only a short time and it was time to leave once more. This time we went to Lenoir to my regular doctor to get checked on for the Shingles which has a tenacious ability for creating havoc much longer than I care to having to endure.

Alas! I leave the doctor's office with a handful of prescriptions. Three of them are refills, but there are also three new medicines for me to use. How is it that the list keeps getting longer instead of shorted when it comes to having to take medicines ? Mornings now find me having to take two handful of pills instead of one. At some point in time, I should be cured of each and every one of whatever it is that plagues me.
