NOVEMBER,1999 ~ continued

November 29,1999 - The evening finished off with a flurry of activity yesterday. Wes came about supper time to work on the drain line for the washer. It has been overflowing again and I have been letting the laundry pile up to keep from having to sop up water from the floor. (Papers work wonders for doing all the water cleanup work.) They stopped at Burger King and brought along supper for all of us. That was a nice surprise. After we sat together and ate, (actually Busy Kid chose to stand at the table on my little step stool) he worked on some things for me. He poured a whole gallon of commercial drain cleaner down the drain line from the washer and had it working in no time.

(Tree, take note!)when we opened the washer to start the water to flush out the drain, what did Wes find, but three towels I had prewashed and an overabundance of cardboard and paper pieces. There must have been a zillion tiny bits of debris. The washer was overflowing before the debris happened to erupt, but I knew almost immediately what happened. The top of the washer had been open for a few days. I had a shoe box with a pair of Mother's shoes I had brought back from the nursing center sitting on top of the dryer. The soaked shoes were in the washer. All that was left of the box was the zillion bits and pieces to be plucked out by hand. Wes is most patient with me and my escapades, so we laughed together as we cleared up the mess. I gently reminded him once again that where his Mother is concerned there is never a boring moment, or a simple solution to some of the situations I seem to find myself surrounded by.

Allan stopped by this morning on his way home from the EMS. His family should find out what decision the judge will make about the future of little Buddy Boy this week. He is so happy now and takes a place in the heart of each of our family members. We all are uneasy about the possibility of his being returned to his "Mother." Many things out of the ordinary have occurred over the past twenty months. Social Services usually tries to get a child back with its family within six months. This child had not had a single time left along with his in all the time we have had him. We keep thinking about the nine broken ribs that were in different stages of healing on this little ten pound three month old. It is all more than just a broken leg.

Saturday night we were all one big happy family. Buddy Boy and Busy Kid had their very own little table off to one side of the "Big Folks" table. The grandsons had seats of honor at the kitchen bar off to the side. Giggles had the highchair, and the rest of us were around the table extended with both extra leaves to make room for all of us. We were one big happy family enjoying the fellowship with one another along with an excess of edibles. Wendy surprisingly went all out fixing an item that each and everyone particularly desired. It was nine o'clock before we got Mother back to her room at the center, worn out and clutching a navy, velvet, year 2000 teddy bear she got as a belated birthday present We left Bingo Kid with early presents to enjoy for his December 1st birthday.

November 30,1999 - Today's day? Topsy-turvy, to say the least. Tbird called last evening to inform me that Giggles had a high fever and she may need me to help out with looking after her today. Daycare doesn't allow children with fevers to attend. I had planned to go shopping in Hickory with Ms. Jay to pick up a few things for Christmas. Those plans had to be trashed and she went with her daughter shopping instead. Of course, Tbird called about lunchtime to say that she had stayed home with the baby today. She has an appointment with the doctor in the morning at nine o'clock. We all thought and hoped that having the tubes in Giggles' ears would end the sick spells she has been having since August. Guess we will have to think again on that matter.

As of four-thirty this afternoon, there is still no word from the court hearing today and it's outcome about Buddy Boy. I can only hope and pray that the judge is able to come to a decision today and not have to prolong this process yet another month. Or should I say twenty months and counting! Again this month I am getting calls to see what the outcome is. Even, Cotton has called from New Jersey.

Quest, the border collie, is not yet a year old and had her first "beauty" showing in Mass. In the one week end she was able to earn six points toward the 15 or so that she needs for her Championship. The basenji's were not nearly as quick and easy to work with. Cotton doesn't really have the patience for this type of show, so she has someone else showing Quest. Cotton likes the shows where she can go out and work and move herself along with the dogs and the agility coursing is more in her personality and liking. Of course, too, the basenjis have not been in shows of that type either. All of their championships are in Agility and Coursing.

I managed to get my money spent for the month today by writing checks to pay the monthly bills. Now I am only waiting for the call from Allan and his family about the baby and then I can leave the house to mail them this evening. I'll probably pick up something for supper while I am out.

NOTE: Allan and his wife were in court ALL day. They got home a little after six this evening. The judge gave Social Services sixty days to complete and file papers for termination of parental rights. He said the baby was best left where he is now. The "Mother" would never give any reason or facts about the broken leg ... It would be really great if the year waiting period could be waived and adoption could take place now as well - They have had him since May, 1998. There are a lot of unanswered questions for now.
