Nature Songs ~~~~
OCTOBER, 2001 ~ continued ~
October 27, 2001 - We survived! BingoKid and DynoKid were asleep fairly early on in the evening. NascarKid was glued to the computer and had to be pried away from it about midnight. BusyKid was the last one to go to sleep. At one point, he mentioned that he wished we would call his Daddy to bring his bed over here for him to sleep in. Once he made a comment, “I miss my Mommy.” I told him if he would close his eyes and go to sleep that morning would be here when he awoke and he would be able to see Mommy. A few minutes later he was sound asleep beside me in my bed.
Morning does come and when BusyKid awakes, he says, “It is morning. It’s daylight.” No more mention of Mommy or Dad was made and he in sync with his big brother and cousins. Tbird brings Giggles over and we all go to Golden corral for lunch. That’s an experience. Five children and two adults. We had to wonder how many people may have thought that all five of the children belonged to Tbird ... especially when she took two plates and the two younger ones to choose their food choices from the buffet. I stuck to my regular plate of tips and a salad, but was not all that hungry. I only ate about half of my lunch.
Midafternoon, I was to meet Allie at the Civic Center and leave one of our cars. We have a concert coming up this evening. I arrived first and parked so I would be ready to pull out into the flow of traffic after the show. Yes, I had second thoughts about leaving my new machine sitting there in the empty parking lot, but said a little prayer and walked away from it.
My Fair Lady was our program this evening. It was excellent and the costumes were spectacular - to say they least. The show was late beginning because their bus broke down in Tennessee mid afternoon and they were later arriving since they had to wait for another bus to come pick them up. It was near eleven p.m. when I got home, but having been so entertained by an excellent group, the time sped by. This show was as if they were not acting, but really living their parts! I love the songs from My Fair Lady: ”Why Can’t the English?” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?” “With a Little Bit of Luck” “I’m an Ordinary Man” “Just You Wait” “The Rain In Spain” “I Could Have Danced All Night” “On the Street Where You Live” .... the list goes on .... I love them all and have enjoyed these songs for years.
So many people out of work - the scare of terrorist - whatever the reason, the auditorium was not full. Some people missed a performance that should not have been missed. We are so fortunate to get renditions such as My Fair Lady in our small nook of the world. Next month we have The Nutcracker by the Russian Ballet Company - another great production, I’m sure. I’m looking forward to all the wonderful costumes that are certain to be included.
October 28, 2001 - Two of my clocks are turned back, but as it turns out, I was awake early this morning. I arrived at church a bit early. This is a special day at church since we are recognizing and showing our appreciation of Law and Safety Officers of the community. Coffee and donuts were there for getting acquainted before church and lunch is being shared with them after church. For Sunday School, the different officers went to the classrooms to discuss their work and answer any questions. We had a fireman in our class who actually lives in Marion, which is on the other side of Morganton. He has a good distance to travel to and from work.
The sermon for this week was on Lessons in the School of Life. As parents shepherd the hearts of their children and impart wisdom, there are offerings for help throughout the book of Proverbs. The scriptures used in today’s sermon were: Proverbs 4:4-9; Proverbs 2:1-4; James 1:5; Proverbs 2:10-11; Proverbs 18:7; Proverbs 10:5; Proverbs 12:15; Proverbs 21:20; Proverbs 3:99;; Proverbs 13:20; Proverbs 9:10
There are three levels of wisdom which are progressive as one builds on the one before.
1. The kind that facilitates general life management
>
2. The kind that leads to sound judgment
3. The kind that produces spiritual perception
Teaching tools needed in order to work with children:
1. Dialogue - listen with concentration.
2. Example - treasure the perceptions
3. Prayer - cry out for understanding and wisdom
4. Experiments - search for wisdom
Kids need to learn:
Life management day -to-day.
1. How to control their mouth - set an example
2. How to approach work - by example
3. How to handle their situation - emotions
4. How to manage money
5. How to deal with sex.
Sound judgments;
6. The value of a teachable spirit
7. How to gauge the influences on their lives
8. To see why it makes sense to attempt to live a righteous life
Products spiritually working toward:
9. How to gain knowledge about God
10. How to know and love God personally
My afternoon was spent resting until near evening when I ventured over to work on Mother’s fingernails and give her some new color on them.
October 29, 2001 - With much trepidation I managed to crawl out of bed and make my way to the valley and Quest. I felt like turning over in bed and not moving a muscle, but move I did. In fact, I moved something in my left shoulder and neck I wish I hadn’t moved! Once I got home, I remembered we did some kind of new move today, but for the life of me I can’t remember exactly what it was. No matter, it left me with a problem.
In one sense I took it easy for the afternoon since I rested on the bed. In another sense, it was not a true rest. I worked on paying bills and getting them ready to mail out this afternoon. About four this afternoon, I drove by the post office up town and deposited all my money in the mailbox. I have to believe that it will all make it safely and uncontaminated to each of the destinations on time. Times like the last few weeks and I am wishing that all I had to do would be sit at my computer and push a few buttons to pay the bills. I think I will look into the possibility of that. It would be faster and cheaper and one would have to believe, safer?
By the time I arrived at the nursing center it was near five thirty. I had gone by the bank for my weekly allotment to live on and stopped at Wally World to buy candy for Mother. Her staff was out of candy and she needs some for Halloween. Buying for the two different occasions was expensive, as the total at checkout was $21 plus!! Glad I don’t do that every week. I have enough candy for the staff that 2/3 of it I stashed away for other days in the future. The trick or treat candy I brought home with me to work on later. Later was not to be tonight ...
Having worked through some Pandemonium months, Allan and his wife have made plans to renew their wedding vows this coming Sunday. He called to let me know about the time and place. That means I will miss a business meeting at my own church, but that's okay. The well-being of their family is much more important at this time. Buddy Boy made the statement, “Jesus brought my Mommie back home.” His happiness is very evident about the way things are going at this time.
October 30, 2001 - I didn’t slumber long enough to even bother going to bed. I broke down and took Flexeril around two this morning to see if it would help me find a comfortable way to lie. It didn’t do much. The pain from whatever it was I did during my workout yesterday morning was determined to keep stabbing my left back and shoulder. I went back to the early class this morning to see if maybe I could work out some of the soreness.
That didn’t work, either. In fact, I stayed through two classes, but I was limited with my left arm in some of the exercises. Several asked me if something was wrong. Yes, my shoulder and back hurt. Only later this evening while sitting with Mother did I notice that my upper arm is noticeably swollen! Swollen tight in fact. Guess whatever it was that I pulled, I pulled it good!! There is some swelling in the hand and fingers. Perhaps I should take it easy and rest it more.
I’ve all ready made plans to take one of my friends to workout in the morning. I will go easy during the hour.
I took all the Halloween candy and bags over to the nursing center this afternoon and made the treat bags for Mother to give out over there as well as some for me to use here at home if any should come by. I had some stickers to use to hold the plastic bags closed so the candy would not come out. I know that Mother will be going through the bags to examine them for their contents. She will forget and do it over and over. Hopefully, the stickers will keep all intact for any visitors coming in search of a treat.
October 31, 2001 - Halloween was quite different this year. My only true trick or treater rang the doorbell around 5 PM. It was Ms. Jay and one of her grandchildren. I had dropped off to sleep and by the time I got to the door they were about halfway back down the road to their house. I didn’t bother to call after them. Since it was so late and I felt so lousy, I didn’t bother to go over to the nursing center to see Mother either. I knew she would have visitors. Turns out that BJ and his wife were over to see her and spent most of the afternoon as well. All of my grandchildren got over to see her which made her very happy, too.
An early morning call from Tbird and I agreed to keep Giggles today. She has another earache and was running a fever so she could not go to daycare. I had plans to pick up my friend and her little granddaughter, so Dad had to take out his carseat for me to use and I took Giggles on to Q4L so I could work out. She also arrived with her Halloween costume in a bag clutched in her hand.
We left after our class and drove out to see the new house that Bonnie has put an offer on and is planning to maybe move into it around the first of the year. On the way, we drove up on a road check as we rounded a curve on one of the backroads. The highway patrolman asked to see my driver’s license . He held them up briefly for a look and handed them back to me as he glanced in the back seat and saw the two little ones side by side in the two car seats. Then I was wished a “good day” and ushered on my way. I was most fortunate, because, the bill of sell on my new car was at home where I left it when I carried in the book to read about the features of the car. Not only that, but this was the first day I had ever put in the new booster seat for Giggles and it was not as it should have been. I figured out one thing I did wrong as I drove over to pick up Bonnie and her little one and as they got in I corrected it. The one thing I didn’t notice was that when I left the slack in the seatbelt thinking that it would pull tight when I started the car and go back into the side, it couldn’t. The belts on this style is bolted to the wall at the bottom and only takes in at the top. It doesn’t work like the other belts work, pulling out from both ends ... but, thankfully, she was wedged between the door and the carseat in the middle.
Allen brought Buddy Boy by the house and changed him into his costume to do some rounds with a few friends this evening. He left here dressed in his new clown suit, multi-colored wig atop his head and cap attached to it, and his face covered with all the war paints of clowns. As they walked next door for their first stop, I sent out some treat bags since I had missed them earlier. Mom drove their car out to pick them up to continue on their way. The rest of my evening was quiet.
