I just want to tell you to be strong and continue your fight, it's a long process. I was in a car accident and was hurt severly. Though the help of my friends I was able to recover almost completely. I still have no short term memory, but if that is the only thing wrong with me than so be it!!! Your story has helped me in my psycology class (I'm doing a report on brain trauma). Thanks a million and I hope everything works out for you!!!!!

Your story is so heart-rending and yet so glorious that it is difficult to know what to say. I want to salute you, your parents who knew better than just let their son lie there and die. I'm so happy they didn't listen to the so-called professionals. And eah!! to your brother for praying from Day 1. I'm so glad you are alive and have such a great, and loving family. I have five sons and one is named David, he also is special. You will make it. You are correct, God wants you here on earth for some reason ou do not even suspect yet. When the time comes, you will know. God be with all of you. Hugs, Ant

Just searching for TBI/ABI info - my 1.5yr old son's father was in a car wreck on Jan 14, 2000, and hit his head on the windshield. He was in a coma for 5 days, and now is slowly responding. The Dr. said that there was no bleeding or swelling, and they ad to compare his CAT scan to a normal CAT scan to see the damage, if any - but to me, it seems like he would recover alot faster than he is. I'm very happy for you having such a great and supportive family. I hope that James does come around enough to interact with our son. I also hope that your situation with your daughter improves. Thanks for listening! -C

Hello there. I just read your story and thought I'd send you a note. I'm also a TBI survivor, but mine was the result of a mva. TBI is no fun, is it? So many people don't understand what TBI is all about and then can't understand why we survivors are a li tle :different" now. Have patience where your daughter is concerned. She has to adjust to the fact that DAD is "different" now , too. She's young, she loves her Dad so she will. Just give her time. If you're looking for a pen pal I'd be honored to keep on writing. Let me know and keep your chin up.......Shelly Mullen

Hey Dave ...read your story, I'm sorry to hear what happend to you, but, I'm glad your not giving up & your as strong as you sound. My husband was hit from behind on the head with a baseball bat & it shattered his skull into 16 pieces. He has many many pr blems & would have given up, I think, if I didnt push him so hard to try. He gets mad at me & I get tired but I dont see us having any other choice. Thanks for your story, it keeps me strong. Hugs to you.....CINDY

I tried to 'e' you but something in my computer wouldn't cooperate. I do believe head injuries are contagious because ever once in a while computers will not do what I want them to. I know this is supposed to be your guestbook but I will use it for corr spondence. Come visit my web site at www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/hornsey/853/hemiman.htm or go to the link on the TBI web's link. It is listed as Jay D. Enloe. Did you have a 'near death' as did I? Hi...my name is Cindy and I am the sister of Robert whom has also survived TBI...His story is much the same including the worst part of all ...as you and your family did ( The Medical Professionals)...If you can survive them you can survive anything!!!heh ...I am so proud of you and your family...Your mom sounds just like mine....we never give up either...and in fact have witnessed Doctors shrieking when they saw us coming down the hall. I live in alaska with my family, husband, son, and daughter. My Mot er and brother are in Texas. I have spent the last 8 months seperated from my husband and son, taking my daughter with me to texas to do all the same things your Mom and Dad have done for you. My brother had his accident only 2 weeks following a family acation here in Alaska. We had gone white water rafting, mountain climbing, helicopeter up to Mt Mckinley (all the dangerous things) and then he was involved in the accident upon his return to texas. We will be moving to Texas as soon as we can arrange t..Unlike your Mom ours doesnt have a Dad to help so we are pulling together. Not for one minute do I regret or have bad feelings about any of the work involved as people so often suggest I should...It is hard to explain the strength and love that a pers n can pull out of themselves when a loved one is in need of care. I know you are a joy and inspiration to your family as Robert is to ours. God Bless you...and keep up the good work...I hope to hear about your next improvement...Cindy

Sounds like your parents are 'heaven-sent' and that God DOES have a higher purpose for your life. Dave, I too am a survivor. I was diagnosed with long-standing hydrocephalus AFTER my TBI. I have had 3 shunt operations between 1991 and '92. You're righ . We can never give up. I tried going back to work, but unsuccessfully. I am STILL on narcotics for pain, something which the neurosurgeon says will be for the rest of my life. Please feel free to e-mail me if you want to just talk to someone else who has a shunt. I know how scarey it can be. I am not a professional but have personal experience.

Dave, I just want you to know that your attitude will take you into a meaningful and successful life. Keep on the path my friend. Handicapable No, I'm not disabled, I'm handicapable! I have a love for life, that is insatiable. Don't look and say I can't, stop and see I can, Do some things successfully, like any other man. Don't look at how I'm different, look deep and you will see, The human being hiding, that is the real me. I just want you to know, that in this disabled shell, There lives a friendly man, whose doing very well. So if all you see is handicap, then take another look, And see my heart and soul, and check in every nook, To find this, handicapable, man who's hiding there, living in a world he's hoping will learn to care.
