Public information is
the process of informing the public about the operations of and actions taken by Team EMS
during emergencies. The public has a right to know about these operations, and public
information ensures public awareness about the emergency services provided by Team EMS.
Our public education generally is accomplished through the media. Public information can
also be provided through public speeches and other presentations. Public education is the process of changing people's
attitudes and behaviour related to safety, as most injuries can be prevented with changed
behaviour. Think about how many injuries are due to a person's behaviour: riding a bicycle
without a helmet, falling on a loose rug or carpet. These incidents are due to careless or
inappropriate human behaviour. Team EMS public education seeks to change a person's
attitude about his or her personal safety and wellness, resulting in a change in
behaviour. Our public education program uses many methods to achieve its goal, including presentations at schools, programs at community events, news stories, and public service announcements. |
