New Mexico is truly the Balloon Fiesta Capital of the World. The first festival is in January right here in Las Cruces, and the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival is in October. Both offer a great selection of balloons, but the show in Albuquerque takes half a day to get them all launched! That's a lot of hot air. Both shows have a "ballooon glow" at sunset when many of the pilots tether the balloons to the ground and light them up with the flames. It's quite a sight to see many of them glowing at night. There are more and more special shapes showing up every year. Our favorite is the "Old lady who lives in a shoe".
