The Hatch Chili Festival
and the Hillsboro Applefest
The guys here are roasting the current crop of Chili from the Hatch Valley. MMMMMM what a taste and smell. When you put a sack of them in the car for the ride home, the smell lasts for days. It smells better than a new car. They are really good when they are fresh picked. The building next to the roasting picture has red chili totally covering the roof of the building.
The next pictures are from the Hillsboro Apple fest. It's another small town event, but along with apple pies they are also selling different arts and crafts. It was quite a ride into the town because it was about half an hour off the interstate.
Way off in the distance, in the middle of the picture, you can see the Organ mountains. This photo was taken in Hatch, about 40 miles from Las Cruces. Add another 20 miles to the mountains themselves and you get an idea how big the actual mountain range is.
Finally, one of the sexiest cows in New Mexico. This was in front of a house in Hillsboro. Maybe it's the town greeter.
