Darlene Marie Young, 54, of 1414 Knob Hill Drive, Lititz, died Wednesday afternoon at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a two-year battle with cancer.
She was a registered nurse for 18 years at Lancaster General Hospital.
A 1965 graduate of Warwick High School, she received an associate's degree in nursing from Reading Area Community College in 1983.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church of Rothsville, where she taught Sunday school and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Jacob D. and Mae Kern Helman of Lititz.
She was married to Gary L. Young for 34 years in September. They couple enjoyed collecting antiques.
Surviving besides her husband and parents are three sons, Greg L., married to Brenda Young, Geremy L., married to Carrie Young, and Gordon L., married to Suzie Young, all of Lititz; four grandchildren; a sister, Linda, married to Samuel Kemp of Fleetwood; and a brother Jeffrey D. Helman of Morristown, NJ.
Relatives and friends attended the funeral from the Salem United Methodist Church of Rothsville, on Saturday at 10 am with Rev. Steven W. Rodgers officiating. Interment was in Millport Community Cemetery, Millport. Friends called on Friday from 7-9 pm at the Richard H. Heisey Funeral Home, Broad St, Lititz, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
