What Exactly is Circumcision

Male circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin, and much more. At birth, a boy's foreskin is still part of his glans, just an outer layer (much the same way a fingernail is attached to a finger). When a boy is circumcised, the doctor inserts the tip of a clamp, and physically tears this organ into the two parts (glans, and foreskin) it will become if allowed to develop normally. This is, of course, horrendously painful. Boys are known to go into shock, stop breathing, and become paralyzed with pain (since they stop crying, many people think the baby is fine). Once the two halves of the organ are separated, the foreskin has a thin wire wrapped around it, which is tightened until it cuts the most sensitive tissue on the boys body off. This is of course, also extremely painful. The wound is then wrapped in a bandage and the boy gets to look forward to a few weeks of pain, and a lifetime of insensitive, malfunctioning genitalia. Also, due to the intense pain, his brain will now develop differently. He can look forward to a life of more intense pain and a less efficient immune system. |
