These first ones are of the Valley of Fire. These are the caves where the Anastasi people used to live...beautiful!
Petrogliphs
These shelters were built to house travellers to the park in the early 1900's. They each have little fire places in the corner. This was the first National park in Nevada.
The rest of these pictures are of Zion Park.
This is Checkerboard Bute, although the picture really doesn't do it justice. We learned that Bute's are higher than they are wide, and Mesa's are wider than they are tall...learn something everyday huh?
We had to drive through a tunnel that went through a mountian for quite a distance. This is a picture of one of the 5 windows that looks out from the tunnel. They had to stop traffic for use until we arrived at the other end since the bus was so high we had to drive down the center of the tunnel.
This is called a "natural arch" and there are many in the park. This one is as wide as 3 football fields. There are constant rock falls in the park...luckily none while we were there!
The cliffs in the park were so verticle, and people spend 3 or more days rock climing them. They sleep in cots pinioned to the side of the cliffs....watch that first step in the middle of the night!
Another of the windows from the tunnel
