Briefly, Reiki is a healing ray of energy brought forth from the earth. It was put in the earth for man to heal himself. All healing comes from God in whatever form you wish to receive Him/Her - a "healer" is merely a channel for healing energy.
We are a living, breathing mass of energy so it only makes sense that through the use of energy we can facilitate healing. A Healer usually "feels" areas of "mis-qualified" energy surrounding the client and removes it by either "draining" the energy off or "releasing" it and sending it into the Violet Flame or into the Sun be transmuted. The Healer must then replace the old energy with new, healing energy and seal off the area being worked on. This energy is actually transmitted through the hands of the Healer and directed into the energy field (aura) of the client in a specific way depending on what is required.
The Healer can feel the energy coming through the hand and finger chakras. To some, it feels like tiny sparks while to others it feels like a tingling sensation. Some Healers feel the "mis-qualified " energy as a hot or cold spot or they may feel the energy arc up their hands and arms.
During a Reiki healing session the client is fully clothed with only the shoes and perhaps some jewelry removed. They will most likely lie down on their back on a Reiki table (much if not exactly like a message table). The Healer may offer a prayer or invocation depending on spiritual beliefs and call upon Angels, Spirit Guides, Masters and other Spirit Healers to help in the healing. Every Healer has his/her own technique and all of them are acceptable as long as the client is comfortable with the procedure.
There is usually no touching during a healing session, although some Healers do place their hands on the clients body. This is not necessary because the healing is occurring within the energy system and not the physical body although the resulting healing will manifest on the physical level. The chakras will be opened and balanced and the aura will be cleared.
Some people are so relaxed during a healing session that they fall asleep. This is fine and sometimes advantageous so the ego doesn't inhibit the healing. Others will be invigorated and feel "recharged." Almost everyone feels a bit dizzy and disoriented after a healing and should sit up slowly and breathe deeply before getting up from the table.
Many Healers like to light a candle and have soothing music playing to soften the mood of the room and help relax the client. Sometimes during a healing session the Healer will receive intuitive information concerning the client which is usually shared and discussed at length. These messages from Spirit normally relate to the healing and are sometimes issues brought forward from a past life. It is through the healing of the emotions that healing of the physical occurs.
