Q. What is Project HOPE?
A. Project HOPE is a countywide Peer Education program, which is in its 4th year of operation. Each High School in the county is invited to send ten (10) students and one to two faculty advisors to a one-day training and a follow up overnight retreat. The participants learn about HIV, drugs and alcohol, self-esteem and public speaking. This is a program, which takes place at the Kurtz Center (one-day) and at Taconic Outdoor Education Center (overnight). There is also an outdoor experiential component involved which brings the students closer together as a working team. The goal of Project HOPE is to have teams of Youth Peer Educators in each school in our county so that we may reduce and perhaps eliminate the spread of HIV infection in our Youth.
Project HOPE is funded through a grant from the Rockland County Youth Bureau and the BOYD Foundation.
