Biography of Dr. Saul Cohen

 

Saul Cohen was born in Toronto in 1921. He graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1943. After three years of medical service with the Canadian Armed Forces, he moved to Melville, Saskatchewan where he practiced medicine from 1946 to 1954.

In 1954 he began practicing Family Medicine in Regina. In 1959, he became Medical Consultant to the Regina Rehabilitation Centre, a position he held until 1980. From 1981 until 1988 Dr. Cohen was Chairman of the Saskatchewan Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission.

In 1986, Dr. Cohen was awarded Senior Life Membership in the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons in recognition of 40 years membership, and Senior Membership in the Canadian Medical Association for his contribution to medicine in Saskatchewan.

As well, Dr. Cohen was presented the Saskatchewan Award of Merit in 1986 for his outstanding contribution to alcohol and drug abuse treatment, rehabilitation and research in Saskatchewan.

Upon retirement from his Regina practice, and his position as SADAC's Chairman, Dr. Cohen and his wife Sheila relocated to Toronto with his where he is now a consultant.
