In 1997 I noticed a quarter-sized lump on the right flank of my cat Mara. My vet told me it was probably a 'fat pocket'. By Fall 1998 the lump had grown to baseball size and protroded grotesquely from Mara's side. On a routine visit to my new vet (I had moved out of state by this time), the lump was diagnosed as cancer. Mara had surgery to remove the lump which was later identified as a 'fibrous histiocytoma, storiformpleamorphic type' and it was malignant. I was shocked. I had to save my cat. I began looking for information on this type of cancer in cats and the various treatment options. My search of course took me to the internet. I found a lot of information on this type and other types of cancer in felines, dogs, etc.
Last year, my Mom's "Cancer Ring" (see "The Story") was stolen from her home along with some other personal jewelry. I was very upset about this and wanted so much to do something to ease the lose of that very special token. I created this webring and called it The "Cancer Ring" in honor of the real "Cancer Ring" given to my Mom by her brother. At the same time I remembered my search for information about feline cancers and thought this webring could help someone else in their search for information.
So that's our "Mission", to provide links to websites that provide information on cancer; provide support for those who have cancer or know some one who does; honor the lives that cancer has touched, changed, and ended; to celebrate those who have triumphed over cancer and those who have fought the fight.
