Stabilization and
InventoryTraining

Stabilization

This is the process of regaining control of your thoughts, emotions, memory, judgement, and behavior after you have relapsed. This is a time of crisis for you and your family. A relapse is destructive. It is normal to feel frightened, angry, disappointed, and guilty.

A relapse is saying:

I NEED HELP

This is when you want to take advantage of the support system which you have set-up.
You cannot pull yourself out of a relapse on your own. It is time to use the previous mentioned methods to identify and isolate the reasons for the relapse
Ouside help ( family, counseling, AA) will be needed.
You can not work this program alone.

Inventory Training

Every successful recovery involves taking inventory daily if needed. This is necessary to help us identify relapse warning signs before your denial is activated.
Without a regular inventory, you will probably ignore early warning signs, and then be unable to interrupt the relapse syndrome.
Make regular inventory a habit: Each morning you should set aside a time to reflct on or read Somehing from the Big Book. Maybe even a passage from the Daily Reflections or the Bible. If time allows, a combination of all could not hurt.
Briefly outline your plans for the day. Ask yourself if you are prepared for the day and what can you do that will help you physically and emotionally meet the challenges of the day.
In the evening, review the tasks of the day. Identify what you handled well, and what needs improvement. What strengths did you use in meeting the challenges of the day?
How can you reinforce and build upon your strength?
What weakness became apparent, and how can you correct those short-comings, and improve in those area's?
Just knowing what your warning signs are is not enough to help you. Remember that warning signs of relapse often develop unconsciously, you do not know they are happening to you. An inventory is a way to consciously review what happens to you on a daily basis.
