Lorene Stanley Standing, age 95, of Earlham, Iowa, died March 12, 1999 at Iowa Methodist Hospital of a heart ailment. The body has been donated to the Univeristy of Osteopathic Medicine. Memorial services were held Sunday, March 21 at Bear Creek Meetinghouse where she was a member. Amy Lorene Standing was born June 29, 1903 at Whittier, Iowa to Ellis and Eva Stanley. She was the oldest of five girls and loved to do outside farm work with her father. She attend Scattergood Friends School and graduated from Olney Friends Boarding School. She taught school at the Whittier Friends School from 1922 to 1925. She married Albert Standing August 26, 1926. They farmed near Dexter, Whittier, and finally the Standing farm nort of Earlham. Lorene raised a garden, canned fruits and vegetables, sewed and worked for severel families near Earlham. They left the farm in 1956, worked at the O'Brien County Home and the Oakdale Sanitarium. They retired to Whittier in 1969 to help care for Lorene's father and Mother. They continued helping those who need help inthe community and were custodians for the Whittier Community Building.

After Albert's death Lorene moved to Pioneer Place in Earlham. She continued to enjoy sewing. She made many pieced comforters and always looked forward to Sunshine Circle. She especially enjoyed her neighbor and dear friend, Vera Cave, ate many meals with her and helped Vera when she broke her hip. Lorene entered the Earlham Health Care Center in October of 1997.

Her family was the center of her life. She liked to tell her grandchildren their family history and stories of her childhood. She was a skilled homeopathic practitioner, helping many people with her remedies. she worked hard, was frugal but very generous to those in need.

Her son Wilden and wife Shirley live ni Springfield, Massachusetts, daughter Alberta and husband Burt in Earlham, son Ellis and wife Win in Earlham. Eleven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild survive. In addition there are four surviving sisters, Irma Hampton of Fairhope, Alabama, Hazel Scorpil of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wilma Leonardo of Tucson, Arizone, and Clyda Carpenter of Anamosa, Iowa.
