Boyd Ready, 90 of Summer Have Lake died Wednesday, Aug 1, 2001 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney (NB). Services will be held at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. Burial with military rites, by Franklin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5757 will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin (NB).
Boyd was born May 23, 1911 on the family farm near Riverton Nebraska, to Armistead and Alta (Pierce) Ready. The family moved to Franklin, Nebraska and he graduated from Franklin High School. Boyd attended Hastings College in 1929 and then studied at the Art Guild Academy in Los Angeles. He returned to Hastings and worked as a theater poster artist. He later attended the Chicago Art Institute.
On Dec 14, 1941 Boyd and Angela Skinner were married in Las Vegas. He served in the 10th Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 and served in one of the cadres that trained Chinese troops. After the war Boyd moved to Beaver City and was co-owner of the Harrington & Ready clothing store. He moved to Lincoln in 1953 where he was a sales rep for Burlington mills and other major textile mills. Boyd retired in 1976.
Boyd and Angie owned and developed Summer Haven Lake south of Kearney (Nebr.) beginning in 1964. He moved to Kearney in 1970 and wintered near Orlando Florida.
In addition to Angie, Boyd is survived by sons; Boyd "Skeet" of Summer Haven Lake and Mike of Orlando; daughter, Sue Miller of Denver; sister; Sue Somsen of Oakland, California; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Boyd was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
