Don Wilson as Mr. Kettering
Lurene Tuttle as Mrs. Kettering Will Wright as the boatman
Denis O'Dea as Inspector Starkey A couple's marriage disintegrates while on vacation at Niagara Falls. The film makes great use of the location. This is one of my favorite Marilyn films that has that classic 1950's feel to it. This movie was one giant step forward for Marilyn. The motel used in the movie, the Rainbow Cabins, was a set that was built for $48,000, overlooking the Falls. It became a real hotel after the movie was completed, and the promotion was "Marilyn Monroe slept here!". The exterior shots were done on location and the interiors were done at 20th Century Fox's West Los Angeles backlot.
I'm told the boat that was used in Niagara was a 1941 Steelcarft 26 (made by Churchward and Son's in the state of Connecticut). It was a WWII patrol boat in 1941.
One story was, that in 1952, during the filming of Niagara, Marilyn Monroe stayed in room 801 of the Brock Plaza Hotel, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
