The Monster Within
My precious child often asks at bedtime if anything is under her bed and
going to get her.
I always try to reassure her that she is safe.
I know of course she is safe from monsters under the bed but I cannot
always say she is safe from the monster in her head.
This monster seems to leave her be for a time here and there-yet always
seems to reappear.
This monster is the illness that makes her keep her guard up-more at
times, less at others.
It seems to lift yet always hovers.
This monster also creeps up on all around who are trying to help and
will always love her.
If only the magic dust from a story I once read could be real then I
could make that monster disappear forever.
Then perhaps I could lay my child in her bed and she could hear me say
she is safe from all monsters - even the one in her head.

As we head into the Holiday season, my hope is that our kids can escape these monsters and the only monsters will be knocking on the door for candy.
