Tashi Deleg (Tibetan for "Greetings")Hi, my English name is Tara Owens and my Tibetan name is Tashi Droma. I was born in Tibet and now live in America. I would like to share some of the things I have learned about health, and an innovative new therapy tool I discovered recently in China. His Holiness, the Dalai Lama wrote the following about health: "Tibetan medicine views health as a question of balance. A variety of circumstances such as diet, lifestyle, seasonal and mental conditions can disturb this natural balance, which gives rise to different kinds of disorders." |

My PhilosophyMy philosophy of health is similar to this in that I believe good health is based on balance. When the systems in our body get out of balance, the result is sickness. To restore health, it is necessary to bring these systems back into balance. There are many different methods to heal sickness and restore balance in the body, including Western medicine, Tibetan medicine, herbal medicine, acupuncture, acupressure, meditation, massage and physical therapy, nutrition, exercise, and so forth. Each of these methods can be effective, however there is also a danger in "over-treating" an illness. When therapies or medicines are overused, they can become a new cause of sickness. For example, some people treat medicines like food, taking pills every day, at every meal. Such over-reliance on medicines can become quite problematic over time. I believe that medicine should be used to restore balance, not maintain balance. Once a person restores health in his or her life, that balance should be maintained by living a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle, in turn, requires that people live their lives in balance, taking care of themselves without overdoing things.
Magnetic Acupressure TherapyDuring a recent trip to China, I learned about an innovative new therapy tool. It is called the Haci 5-Phase Needle. This tool combines the therapeutic effects of acupressure, moxabustion, and magnetic fields. After trying it on myself, I became convinced that this kind of therapy can be very effective. I first offered this therapy service to clients in Boulder, Colorado, with good results. Now, I have moved my practice to Corvallis, Oregon. Please click the following links to learn more about magnetic acupressure therapy, Haci 5-Phase Needles, and the services I am offering to patients and practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
