Ouachita County Medical Center

 

 

Ouachita County Medical Center is a 150 bed general acute care facility located in Camden, Arkansas. The medical center's service area includes a population of approximately 50,000-55,000 people. Camden is located 100 miles south of Little Rock and is 78 miles northeast of Texarkana. Shreveport, Louisiana and Monroe, Louisiana are approximately 100 miles south and southeast of Camden. 

   The hospital is fully licensed by the State of Arkansas. The medical center and all its services are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. The Home Health, Hospice and Chemical Dependency Programs are also individually accredited by Joint Commission.       

 

  Services: 

   INTENSIVE CARE/CORONARY CARE UNIT

This eight -bed telemetry unit provides specialized care for surgical, heart and other general acute patients.   

 

SURGERY 

Ouachita's four operating rooms are well equipped and staffed with an excellent surgical nursing team. Last year almost 3,000 surgical procedures were performed at Ouachita. In addition, there is a totally equipped, four-bed recovery room.     

 

DAY SURGERY CENTER 

The fourteen (14) bed ultra-modern outpatient center is used for various one-day procedures including lithotripsy, laser, endoscopy, and minor surgery cases.     

 

G. I. LAB 

The G. I. Lab has 2 large, fully equipped endoscopy rooms located adjacent to the Operating Room and Day Surgery Center for the convenience of our patients and medical staff. We have state-of-the-art equipment for both rooms.   

 

  OBSTETRICS

Ouachita County Medical Center averages over 400 deliveries a year, and its OB facilities include an obstetric operating/delivery room, two newly remolded labor rooms, two birthing rooms, rooming-in, a seventeen-bed newborn nursery with isolates, incubators, and a neonatal unit. There is a twenty-bed nursing wing for pre and post obstetrical patients. Sibling and Lamaze classes are offered to the public.     

 

LABORATORY AND BLOOD BANK

Ouachita offers complete laboratory facilities under the direction of skilled pathologists and maintains adequate blood bank supplies in cooperation with the Red Cross. Other services include: Chemistry, Hematology, Bacteriology and Serology.     

 

CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY UNIT

Services include: In-Patient rehabilitation, family, and day treatment care, aftercare, and outpatient treatment.    

 

DOCTORS HOME CARE 

Provides care for patients who are unable to leave their homes and who require skilled care. The daily census in Home Health averages around 150 patients. Services include Skilled Nursing, Elderchoices, Transportation and Personal Care.     

 

HOSPICE

Hospice is another special care program available at Ouachita County Medical Center where terminally ill patients can be cared for at home or in the hospital as their condition warrants. There are social workers, ministers and volunteers who work with the medical and hospital staff to provide holistic care and support for both patient and families.   

 

  MEAL MOBILE 

Ouachita County Medical Center recently acquired this new meal service. The Meal Mobile can deliver nutitionally-balanced dinners within a 50-mile radius. The meals are perfect for any diet and come frozen, so one only needs to heat the dinner in a microwave or conventional oven for a well balanced meal without all of the fuss.    

 

  STEPHENS COMMUNITY CLINIC

Ouachita County Medical Center and AHEC have opened a satellite clinic in Stephens, Arkansas. This facility is a full service rural health clinic.   

 

  RADIOLOGY

Full-time radiology services for treatment and diagnostic assistance are provided under the direction of highly competent radiologists. Featuring modern equipment such as a high resolution CT Scanner, Ultrasound including Doppler, state-of-the-art radiology and fluoroscopy suites, a Lo-Rad dedicated mammogram unit and nuclear medicine echocardiology.    

 

PHYSICAL THERAPY 

Licensed therapists and technicians provide physical therapy for Ouachita County Medical Center patients, both in and outpatients. Services include traction, ultrasound, whirlpool, gait training, and rehabilitation.   

 

PEDIATRICS

A special wing is provided for extra care of our very young patients, including a pediatric playroom. Parents are encouraged to stay with their children around the clock to participate in the care of their child. A bed is provided in each room for the parent's comfort and convenience.    

 

ADULT DAY CARE

Adult Day Care is provided from 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Call 870-836-4106 for more information.   

 

PHARMACY 

The progressive department of Pharmacy Services provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care in a team oriented professional environment.   

 

 DIETARY

An average of 60,000 meals is prepared each year by the Dietary Department. Also offered is dietary counseling for patients and diabetic classes to the public along with a catering service.      

 

ORTHOPEDIC REHABILITATION 

Department of Orthopedic Rehabilitation offers state-of-the-art equipment including: Body Masters, Hydra Fitness Equipment, Isotechnologies, V-200, Kin Com and Pacer Treadmill.    

 

EMERGENCY ROOM 

A round-the-clock team of specialized physicians and nurses see approximately 1,000 patients each month through the emergency department. Two (2) of the six (6) patient's rooms are fully equipped for treatment of the cardiac and/or trauma patient. In addition there are four (4) other rooms for diagnosis or treatment.    

 

 RESPIRATORY THERAPY 

Licensed therapists and technicians administer both diagnostic and theraputic services as requested by the physicians. They are also in charge of the EKG's, EEG's and pulmonary function.    

 

OUACHITA CREST - SENIOR CARE CENTER

Senior Care provides intensive treatment for senior citizens suffering from a variety of emotional issues, in a safe and secure environment.   

 

HELI-PAD 

Our heli pad is located adjacent to the ER Department for convenient transport of trauma or critically ill patients.
