Well, Finally did it! Here is the what's new at Hempfield ! Anyone that has updates for the page please
email me and I will add them in ASAP. Thanks!7/23/99 Gee! must be something about the end of July that makes me work on this section! The only real update I have is that Hempfield is undergoing a merger with Columbia Ambulance to form a whole new company. I however will be a very small part of it as I submitted my resignation for full-time status in favor of PRN/Part time to accept a Job in Philadelphia. My new job is going to be full time but I'll swing on up to HCAA once in a while to give 'em heck! <G>
Come on guys-SOME of you WILL miss me (or at least picking on me!) I wish HCAA the best of luck as it goes through yet more growing pains and I wish the new management and supervisory staff well as they try and handle all the problems bound to crop up! And most of all-to the other peons and grunts there- Hang in there, the only place to go is up!
7/30/98 Well, it seems the management at HCAA DOES know my site exists (Hi Boss!{smile}). I was asked to keep certain things off of here, and since I need the paycheck I will accommodate them. As to current news and views..we got two more wheelchair vans bringing our total up to 6! We are using one of the older vans as a recumbent van for litter patients that don't really require a full ambulance. Seems to be working out so far. We have been running out of three stations now, East Petersburg Fire Company, Hempland Road and Landisville during the day and still have the 24/7 staffing for Hempland Road. We have been kind of busy with the weather being as hot as it has and all but I think that's about it for now. Remember, anything you guys want on this site...you have but to ask and eventually if it can be done I will do it!
5/14/98 Decided to start keeping this more like a log, so starting now all entries will be dated with the newest stuff on top..things will eventually be archived (I think). Things are going pretty well at Hempfield right now. Andy the Ambulance seems to be having health problems (he shorted out at an even in the park recently and hasn't been the same since.) (snipped out the rest as I got in trouble with management at work when they saw it! So much for that!
(Original page Starts here)Well, We have been running as a MICU unit for a little while
now (officially since January 4, 1998). We are now running two MICU's 0600 to 2200 with
back up from volunteer crews usually from 1800-0600. The volunteers have the choice of
running on a MICU or staying as a BLS crew. From 2200-0600 we are running with two EMTs
and one Paramedic.
My View on all this:
I have to admit, I had my doubts about running on a two person MICU at first. But, it seems to be working out pretty well in general. Some calls are tough to handle as a two person MICU so we have a policy in place to help cover each other for certain calls. Examples are unconscious people, working cardiac arrests or respiratory arrest, and Motor Vehicle Accidents with entrapment.
Hey, its working so far and public response seems to be good.Other News:
We are running one MICU 24 hours a day 7 days a week out of a satellite station. The new station is spartan but it is much closer to the center of the majority of our call volume. A lot of our response times are being cut to 2-4 minutes from responding to on scene time.
Upcoming stuff: It seems we are looking at purchasing another new ambulance. It is uncertain as to what type we are looking at getting but let us hope for a box type of some sort! I'm still not a big fan of the van style that we have currently!
