HI! My name is Jeanine, and I am a career
EMT-B with Hempfield Ambulance in Landisville, PA. I am originally from Connecticut, a
graduate of F.S. Bunnell High School, and I transplanted myself in PA in 1988 when I
attended Elizabethtown college for 1 year. After leaving school in search of something to
do that I believed in, I went through many different jobs including managing a few
different eateries. I headed into the medical field as a staff advisor for a group home
involving various degree of mentally retarded or mentally ill adults. From there I headed
into certified nurses aid school, but tired of that after a few years. I found that while
I enjoyed helping people I wanted to do something a bit more daring. Working as an EMT has
been both physically and mentally challenging at times, plus there is the added bonus of
doing something I found a real love for as soon as I started! I started out as a volunteer
at Hempfield , and was later hired with the stipulation that I partner up with Andy the Ambulance. In addition to my PR
duties and children's educational programs, I run on both the MICU(Mobile Intensive Care
Unit-a unit consisting of one EMT-Basic and one EMT-Paramedic level)and on Basic Life
Support crews)BLS) of two EMT's as well as the medically needed wheelchair van service. I
have taken a leave of absence from teaching EMT-B and CPR classes as I found I am not
overly fond of the politics involved though I am still an EMT for the Hempfield Junior
Knights, a midget football team. I regret to say that I did miss quite a bit of the season
this year however. Partially due to schedule conflicts with my full-time job, a trip I had
scheduled before finding out the schedule and (blush) I met someone. Yup, you read it here
first (well, maybe not first if you read RFC) but I have someone special in my life and I
was spending time in support of her activities during our football season this year. The
good news is that our Junior Knights had another great season and two out of the three
teams won in the Championships! Way to go GUYS!
GO KNIGHTS!!!!!!!
In my "spare" time I am into cooking
(check out Usenet group rec.food.cooking), reading (both EMS and Non-EMS related books). I
consider myself lucky on many fronts, but especially since I was always told you could
tell if you truly loved what you did for living if you could say in total honesty that you
would do it for free if you could afford to do so. Well, I have and still do offer my
services as an EMT for free, whenever I have the time.
