I'm in such a bad mood tonight. One of my neighbors called 911 tonight to report loud music from my house. I'm not saying it wasn't true -- when I got home from church the first thing I did was make Zack turn the amp down. But no one has ever complained to me before about the noise. I think there are lots of interim steps you should go through before you call 911!

I'm still really down about the robbery, and this just magnifies it. Someone has plenty of time to report me for excessive noise, but no time to report someone carting off all my stuff! I've got to go back to the police department to file an amended incident report and I have a bunch of paperwork to do before I'll ever see any insurance money. I'm still getting repeated phone calls and personal visits from security firms, too. The whole thing is a major pain!

Of course, all this relates to weight loss because what's my reaction? You guessed it -- food.

I'm now down exactly 15 lbs, and more importantly, have continued to exercise regularly for (ta-da!) six weeks. I think I'm approaching the stage where I need to pump it up a little. Today I did five minutes on the eliptical trainer before I walked on the treadmill. It nearly killed me. I've been fooling myself thinking 20-40 minutes of walking at 3.0-3.3 mph has got me in shape. I'm improving though -- six weeks ago I would have died instead of just feeling like I was about to.

My mother joined Weight Watchers this week and brought all her materials over for me to look at tonight. I know it's a terrific program. I've lost weight with them before. I am resisting rejoining though because I've not been able to lose all the weight previously. I guess I'm trying something different this time around.

I almost forgot my most important news -- my house was robbed this week. Zack called me at work at 4 p.m on Thursday. He had just walked in the door from school and discovered a window was broken and stuff was missing! I told him to leave immediately and call 911 from a neighbors, then I called his dad, who immediately rushed over. Of course, I forgot to tell Pete I told Zack to go to the neighbors, so I think he got a little worried before they got togther.

I got home as quickly as possible but it seemed like the trip took forever. When I got here the police were here fingerprinting EVERYTHING (I'll never get that black powder cleaned up). They stayed for nearly two hours. I was afraid they wouldn't think a little break-in was worth bothering with.

The damage wasn't too bad. They pushed in the back window, but at least the police got good fingerprints off the window frame. Now all they need are suspects. The most valuable thing that was stolen was Zack's bass guitar. We don't even have the serial number for it. I didn't know guitars had serial numbers.

The other things that were taken were the telephone, the answering machine, the battery charger, a jar full of change, two of Zack's jackets, a boom box (and the CD that was in it), a duffle bag (I guess they needed something to carry their loot in), and 3 dr peppers. The worst thing is they pulled everything out of all the dresser drawers onto the floor looking for our valuables. Guess they were disappointed when they didn't find any. The place is really a mess. We used to joke that if burglars ever came to our house they would think someone had already been there, but we were underestimating the amount of mess burglars make.

As you might have guessed, this whole situation has wrecked havoc on my weight watching. I'll keep you informed.

I suppose I'm doing a little better since last week, but in general my eating is still not good. Mondays are my downfall. This morning I put something in the crockpot. Perhaps tasty smells when we get home will keep us from being lured back for pizza again this week.

I walked two miles on the treadmill yesterday. It took me 40 minutes. I am continuing to stay faithful with my exercise, which I guess is a success. Perhaps that also accounts for how slowly the weight is coming off -- I'm turning fat into muscle. Of course, the amount of exercise I'm doing is miniscle compared to some people, but it is such an improvement for me! I'm still working on getting in shape for the Crop Walk, a 10K Run/Walk (ha, guess which I'll be doing) that happens in three weeks. Last year I walked with NO preparation whatsoever. I know I'm in much better shape this year, but 6.2 miles is still a long way.

Things have settled down at work since the conference is over, but I'm still all stressed out at home. I guess that won't end until my teenager is grown.

Later.

I am not very happy with how March has gone so far. On Monday night I let my son talk me into pizza. (OK, let me take responsibility for myself -- we had pizza. I'm the one who got in the car, drove to the pizza place, paid for the pizza, bought it home and stuck bunches of it right into my mouth without even moderating it a bit with some salad.) Even worse, there were cute Girl Scouts selling cookies outside the pizza place and I had to have Thin Mints. I couldn't even tell them I was on a diet because I WAS WALKING INTO THE PIZZA PLACE! How believable would that be!

Yesterday I forgot my lunch and went out for Chinese food. It would have been ok if I'd asked for a doggie bag and brought half of it back to work for another day, but NO WAY. I ate the whole thing, even though I was not enjoying it at all by the last few bites. Then when I got home I was too hungry to make something healthy for dinner, so I stuffed myself with peanut butter crackers. I could barely walk on the treadmill at the Y I was so full.

Wow, it looks even worse when I see it written down. But it's another day now and I'm going to do well. I'm not going to let this be my downfall!

March 1, 1999

My goals for March:
  1. Drink at least 64 oz of water a day.
  2. Walk on the treadmill at least 20 minutes (plus cooldown) at least four times per week. Increase speed to average of 3.5 mph and distance to 1.5 miles.
  3. Do a toning workout at least twice a week. Include two additional machines in toning workout.
  4. Get at least seven hours of sleep a night.
  5. Quit biting my nails!
