I seem to be stuck. I've been at 233 since the middle of March. I guess it's good I haven't been increasing, but I'd like to see some more positive results. I need to jump start my eating program. I'm still doing fairly well with exercise, but my eating has been the pits. My 15-year-old son seems to be interested in joining me. He is really tall -- about 6'2" -- and weighs around 240 lbs. He's always been, not fat, but kind of chunky. He's definitely at the age to do something about it now instead of waiting until he's nearly 42 like his mom.

I'm getting ready to file the insurance report on my robbery. Although they got good fingerprints from the broken window, there were never any leads on who broke in and what happened to our stuff. Zack has quit being patient. He's ready for a new guitar! I got a security system last week. It may not keep the professionals out, but maybe it will discourage amateurs.

Zack is still miserable in school, not doing well and really not caring at all. He'll be 16 this summer and I'm petrified that he's going to drop out. His dad and I have been trying to set up an appointment with the person at his school who plans course schedules but that person is not returning our calls. The school system has not done a good job of meeting Zack's needs, and it is almost too late to make a difference now. I've certainly shed some tears over this. But at least there haven't been anymore 911 calls for loud music.

One bit of good news: I got a raise at work. I upset my brother by telling him I think I make too much money. It's not that I make more than I'm worth, it's just that I make too much to be able to go back to my "real" field of communications. Educators may be poorly paid, but they still earn more than journalists!

Busy, busy, busy. I am having trouble finding time to write in my journal and to exercise. I have been to the Y a few times, but at all different times of the day. I haven't weighed because I'm trying to keep the time consistent. I may just wait until Saturday, which is my usual weigh-in day.

I haven't been eating too bad, but I've bitten my nails to the quick! I guess I have to relieve the stress somehow. In addition to work stress and personal stress, I'm really worrying about the crisis in Kosovo. It just seems like a no-win situation. The people are so pitiful, and nothing we've done so far seems to have done any good for them. But to be honest, I'm sure it's particularly bothering me because I have a teenage son. In the back of my mind I'm thinking "draft." It is scary.

How I did in March:
  1. Drink at least 64 oz of water a day. Hot and cold on this one. I probably did it about half the time.
  2. Walk on the treadmill at least 20 minutes (plus cooldown) at least four times per week. Increase speed to average of 3.5 mph and distance to 1.5 miles. I averaged three times a week on the treadmill. My average speed was about 3.2 mph. I usually walked 1.5 miles, but twice I did 2. I also walked 6.2 miles in the Crop Walk last weekend. My feet are still killing me.
  3. Do a toning workout at least twice a week. Include two additional machines in toning workout. I started great guns with this but I let up toward the end of the month. I wanted to focus on walking in order to be in better shape for the Crop Walk.
  4. Get at least seven hours of sleep a night. Ha!
  5. Quit biting my nails! And again, Ha!
My goals for April:
  1. Drink at least 64 oz of water a day.
  2. Walk on the treadmill at least 30 minutes (plus cooldown) at least four times per week. Increase speed to average of 3.5 mph and distance to 1.5 miles.
  3. Do a toning workout at least twice a week. Include two additional machines in toning workout
  4. Get at least seven hours of sleep a night.
  5. Quit biting my nails. (It doesn't hurt to keep working at this.)
