Multiple Sclerosis

If your browser is Netscape, the word MASTERING will be blinking. But Internet Explorer doesn't recognize the BLINK command. If your browser is IE, this text will be scrolling across the screen like a tickertape. But Netscape doesn't recognize the MARQUEE command. So no matter which browser you use, you're going to get some action. Perhaps Netscape and Microsoft will get together and establish uniform standards. Fat chance.

Several years ago, when free webspace began to appear on the Internet, I thought I had no use for this Geocities page. But then I heard that "Dr." Kevorkian assisted in the suicide (that is, MURDER) of a bunch of people with MS. While news of any of these deaths was always upsetting, a disproportionately large number of his victims had MS. This self-righteous monster scared the Hell out of me! I was horrified, and hoped, and still hope, to use Cyberspace to show that MS can be lived with, and its difficulties overcome. No words can describe the relief I felt when that murderer went to the slammer. But we're still not out of the woods. While Kevorkian has not been granted bail the appeals continue and none of us will be really safe until he dies in prison. Plenty of other folks feel that where there's life, there's hope. You might want to check out the Detroit Free Press Forum for a discussion of "relieving the suffering" of people with MS, a discussion initiated by yours truly. This link will bring you to An MSer's Answer to Killer Kevorkian Before looking at that, take a look at The Hippocratic Oath, a document in which this fool seems to have very little interest.

Since vision problems are among the many miserable effects of MS, there used to be here a link to a large print version of this page. But that's kind of pointless because both Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers can be reset for large print displays and therefore, everything is easier to read. To find out how to do this (for either browser) click here for instructions.

Getting back to not being dead yet, mastering Multiple Sclerosis involves overcoming a variety of fairly minor inconveniences, more annoying than devastating. This can be achieved quite nicely with a plethora (great word, huh?) of assistive devices.

If you're not terribly interested in sitting around feeling sorry for yourself (my dad had MS, he was very good at that), you might consider some means of personal mobility

HOME IMPROVEMENTS
This has nothing to do with the sitcom on ABC a while back. Click here to see how I've changed my home to make it easier to get around in. I looked for information on the Internet about home adaptations, but really couldn't find anything. So this may be the only such information available out there.

Us MSers gotta stick together. Doctors may come up with helpful medication (although if you have, like me, Chronic Progressive MS there frequently isn't much out there) and various types of special equipment. But it takes living with the day-to-day vexations of MS that really makes you an expert. Only MS patients can dream up solutions to little problems AS THEY OCCUR. At this website, you could call anyone in the United States for as long as you wanted, free of charge. But these people got greedy, and started charging. Of course it was too good to last, at least it's quite a bit cheaper than most long distance services and all those 1-800 numbers.
