New Zealand Blood Service Policy

 In response to an enquiry from Virginia Hogg of the Auckland Huntington’s Disease Association, the National Medical Director wrote on the 15th February 2000 the following:

 “Individuals diagnosed as suffering from Huntington’s Disease and who have symptoms will be excluded from donating blood. Asymptomatic individuals who have been shown to possess the HD gene will be allowed to donate as will individuals who have a family history of the disease.”
