CANTERBURY NEWS

Christchurch HD Assn held our first fund-raising event for 2002 in April, a movie afternoon "Gosford Park".  We had a full house and raised over a thousand dollars, a successful event.  This year we didn't do a wine 'n' cheese beforehand, instead when everyone was seated we drew two lucky numbers with petrol vouchers as prizes.  Nobody appeared to miss the wine 'n' cheese and not having to prepare it made things easier for the committee.

We held our AGM on May 5th with big changes at the top.  I say big because our two stalwarts, Judith Baker (Treas/Sec) and Mary Gilmour (Chair) have retreated ever so slightly with Belinda Borst taking on the Treasurer role and Louise Boyle the Chairperson role.  Judith remains as Secretary and Mary is staying on as a Committee Member.

We know we are lucky to have Judith and Mary who have both been involved with Huntington's since its early days in 1980.  Judith has been Treas/Sec almost that whole time and Mary has been a Committee Member since 1985, including Chairperson for the past 10 years.  They have a wealth of knowledge regarding the disease as well as issues regarding support and fundraising.  Thank you Judith and Mary you are our treasures.  Our guest speaker this year was Kimberley Collins who recounted her experiences as a first time HD Camp attendee.  Kimberley gave a very honest view of her feelings and emotions at the time and found the camp overall to be a wonderful experience.  She is looking forward to future camps.  Thank you Kimberley.

Christchurch Assn hopes to regularly submit news, we enjoy reading the news and ideas from other areas and look forward to keeping in touch with you all.
