A Thank You Letter   from a subscriber who had a HD Husband

25 November 1997.
Dear Friends,
Thankyou for your informative newsletter which has been such a help to myself and our family.
On 7 April this year my dear husband Calvin passed away after almost 20 years living with HD. The last 8 of these were spent in the care of St John of God Hospital. Calvin’s illness was diagnosed in India where we spent 17 years in missionary work.
He was greatly loved by the people there.
We didn’t know that HD was in the family but knew his mother had been unwell for years. Calvin bravely bore the illness even saying God had blessed him with it! God of course didn’t want the disease but in his way he knew.
I am on the local committee and have received love and support down through the years. I have been encouraged by the braveness of those coping with the illness or their carers. Surely we do need each other!.
I have had manic depression but have become stronger because of Calvin’s illness, and in some ways have found myself through it. My beloved partner has found his peace at last and gone to a place where there is no sorrow.
I encourage you to "hang in there" and believe in yourself.
My two grandsons have sent some contributions for the newsletter.
Please print this in the newsletter.

Sincerely
Elaine Lucas.
