MULTIPLE CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY (MCS)

We remind you to read the Disclaimer.

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity or MCS, also known as Environmental Illness, is a destinct illness that may times is diagnosed secondarily to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and/or Fibromyalgia. Basically it is an allergic reaction(s) to chemicals.

Some of the basic symptoms of this illness include sneezing, cognitive impairment, sleep disturbance, and coordination problems. However, many other maladies have been seen in this illness. The cause of these symptoms is basically due to the inability of the body to clear out various toxins from within our bodies. MCS is a very complex disease with interlocking underlaying causes and systems involved. It is unclear whether this illness is one that can be cured. Patients with MCS can go for some time with little or no symptoms only to find them reappear for no reason or at the smallest of exposures to a chemical that could include perfume, hand lotion, gasoline or bad air quality (indoor or out).

The problem is that these ailments are often not simple problems with single point cures. It is often many things going wrong and causing other things to go wrong. With many of the victims having several problems at once, few are treated for the total impact, often resulting in only temporary cures which are later followed by unrelated ailments or lingering symptoms. MCS can be become a huge problem when it is diagnosed along with other problems or illnesses.

The factors and causes of MCS may include;

Chemical injury or exposure. (Chronic exposure or just one time)
Primary Infections.
Stress.
Vitamin and/or Nutirent insufficiency.(Malnutrition)
Build up of toxins
Food Allergies.
Circulatory reduction.
Innappropriate neurological reactions.
Exposure to poor air quality.
Heart Attack.
Sub-optimal medical care.
Inadequate medical care.

There are other factors and causes that have also been noted.

The best way to treat this illness is to find a physician that specializes in MCS and begin treatment as soon as possible. That's not to say that you will be cured but early intervention can make a significant difference in your long term outlook. Eliminating specific insults and vitamin & holistic therapies are usually the first approaches to getting the disease under control. It's the patient's responsibility to insist on finding all the problems, and doing what you can to see to it that they are cleared up. There are many books available that can give more specific information on MCS. These are usually readily available in local book stores.
